Charming M Street Cottage with Space to Spare

GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768Everyone loves the M Streets. The neighborhood is centrally located, kid- friendly, and quiet, with one of the nicest collection of 1920s and ‘30s cottages in Dallas. Our Saturday Eight Hundred is a charming M Street cottage at 6250 McCommas Boulevard and it’s not just adorable, it’s also huge.

GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768The expectation of a home in this area is that it will, of course, be charming — with hardwood floors, alcoves and built-ins to display china and books. What is unexpected is space. So when you find a home that’s undergone a well-thought-out renovation and is truly move-in ready, we suggest you drop everything because the “For Sale” sign will be a “Sold” sign in a matter of days, if not hours. Homes that effectively blend the old and new are hard to come by.GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768“It has that wonderful, intact period styling of a 1939 cottage, but with a lot of livable space for a large family,” listing agent Carolyn Black with Ebby Halliday Realtors said. “The ‘L’-shaped, wide corner lot is another great feature, as you have accessibility and enough space for a pool while still having a yard.”

The first floor offers the desirable M Street classic layout and style details. with the master suite, guest bedroom, and three bathrooms. The master suite has not only one, but two bathrooms, which we’re pretty sure does more for family harmony than any therapist!

The kitchen blends beautifully with the original 1939 style, featuring glass-fronted, white cabinetry, subway tile, and hardwoods. It opens into a secondary living space that overlooks the backyard and further opens into the mud room and laundry area. We have to point out there is just amazing storage built into the home. The kitchen has a pantry Martha Stewart would envy, and we think she may have been consulted on that mud room with a cubby built in for each child. It’s brilliant.

The second-floor addition allowed for an office space to be tucked in by the staircase. Upstairs, a large landing leads to an enormous tree-top living space, two more bedrooms, and another bathroom, bringing the square footage to 3,912. If you have teenagers, you’re not likely to see much of them, as this whole floor is a sanctuary they won’t often descend from.GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768GetMedia.ashx_-8-1024x768
