Cali Bungalow Answers Lingering Question

There are times in your life when stars align and lingering questions get answered. One of my lingering questions was answered when I saw the home featured in this week’s column.

You see, when my husband and I bought our current home, it was in desperate need of repair. You could poke holes in the sheetrock because it was so old. The windows needed to be replaced. We wanted to open up some walls in the kitchen to have more space.

“You know babe, I think we could do this ourselves,” is how I would start the conversation with my husband. “How hard can it be? We just do some measuring and get a hammer and voila. We could hire some folks to do the electrical and plumbing but aside from that, it would be easy peasy.”

His response was always the same: “No way in hell, honey.” No one knows me better than my husband and he knows I would be dangerous with that hammer.

The first person I would have hired would have been this guy.

So what if our foundation was in great shape? This guy is in great shape too and sometimes we just need a little eye candy.

I digress.

Now, the desire to avoid divorce court was strong in both of us so we went the safe route and hired a contractor. The lingering question of how our house would have looked if I had my way has now been answered.

Stop adjusting your glasses. Trust me, they are not sitting crooked on your nose. I have no doubt our house would have looked like this at the end of our endeavor.

This masterpiece, located at 317 N Hollywood Way, Burbank, California, just sold for $830K. It has two bedrooms and one bathroom and is 874 square feet.

As wackadoo as this house is, I absolutely love it from top to bottom. Wait until you see the inside.

The interior has that Back to the Future Café ’80s vibe. So what if your retinas are being burned by all those lights? You are living in Café 80s!

The only thing missing from the kitchen is the arcade game Wild Gunman that Marty McFly played to impress some little kids.

Now the difference between this house and my house is that this house has a fireplace.

I will tell you though, I would have absolutely had the contractor build a fireplace just to have this bit of décor.

The dragon is amazing! It is worth $830K all by itself.

So there you go folks, my lingering question as to how our house would have looked if we had done the remodeling ourselves has been answered. It would be a 1980s California masterpiece, slightly crooked and super bright.
