Buckner Terrace Beauty Shows Off Neighborhood’s Appealing Side

Just 5 miles east of downtown Dallas, the established neighborhood of Buckner Terrace offers a central location, larger lots, and most houses over 2,000 square feet. But the best part is the price tags: you can easily find a renovated house in the $300s and a fixer upper for even less. All of this adds up for big appeal and the sales there show it.

Our Thursday Three Hundred at 5223 Elkridge Dr. is a lovely example of what’s happening in Buckner Terrace. Located near Samuell Boulevard and North Jim Miller Road, it offers quick access to Interstate 30 and LBJ Freeway.

The house itself is updated for a more contemporary, open feel with clean lines and natural light, while balancing its 1960’s charm.

This home has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, two living areas, two dining areas, and 2,243 square feet on one story, built in 1969. There’s an open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Want a sneak peek?

Buckner Terrace was once part of the farmland owned by the Buckner Orphanage. According to the Buckner Terrace Neighborhood Association, the group decided to sell part of their holdings in 1959 to obtain much needed funds to care for the children at the home. They divided the land between industrial, commercial, and residential and the neighborhood was born in March 1965. The boundaries I-30 on the north, Lawnview Avenue on the west, Forney Road on the south, and Buckner Boulevard/Loop 12 on the east.

Like so many houses in the area, this lot features big, mature trees — love them. The landscaping is established, as well, and a grassy, green lawn beckons.

Inside, the owners have done a great job making the spaces appealing. The formal dining room, pictured at the top of this post, has a custom paint job and sparkly chandelier. Laminate floors look like the real deal and run throughout the common areas.

The main living area features a vaulted, beamed ceiling, recessed lights, and a wood-burning fireplace with floor-to-ceiling stone surround. Nice.

In the eat-in kitchen, find new granite countertops, white Shaker-style cabinets, open shelving, and stainless steel appliances, including a commercial-grade range. The storage extends into the breakfast area, which also has the same cabinets.

All bedrooms have new carpet and in the master bathroom, the ensuite bath has a custom vanity with dual sinks and walk-in shower.

The backyard is shaded by those mature trees and there is a privacy fence. The attached two-car garage has additional storage areas for tools or equipment.

This home was listed May 11 by Ron Bacon with Century 21 Judge Fite Company for $349,900.
