So, let’s face it — I’ve shown you some really weird stuff in the past few weeks, but today I’m going to redeem myself by showing you a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Midcentury Modern that is pretty much a perfect time capsule.

There are a few things I might change, but all in all, this house has stood the test of time. Let’s look at it, shall we?

This four-bedroom, five-bath home has 2,672 square feet, and it’s been very well apportioned. Some of those bedrooms seem a bit cozy, but closet space looks plentiful, and it looks like every single one of them has its own en-suite.

What would I never change? The built-ins. Those are amazing.

I like the layout, and I might even keep the period-appropriate tilework in some of those bathrooms. The carpet seems clean, but I might be tempted to swap it out, or even consider another flooring option in the common areas — maybe polished concrete, tile, or even terrazzo?

The kitchen seems a bit small – but to be honest, you could gut it and the adjoining dining room and come up with an open plan with an island that would make the whole space feel bigger. The pantry is quite large, though.

I would also probably spring for new windows, too, to really pull in the natural light, since these look original and are a bit cloudy.

The listing reads:

Here is an authentic example of “They don’t build them like this anymore”. The owner says this captivating, iconic mid-century jewel by Norman Samaha is designed and constructed with enough steel to add a second story! The custom cabinetry, built-ins, and doors are solid walnut. Each of the four large bedrooms features a wall of windows and a full, ensuite bathroom. The ceiling to floor windows in the living/dining area open to bright views of the private courtyard. Some of this area can easily be converted to a home office space. There is a huge family room adjacent to the kitchen, which opens to a 20 x 20 covered patio and an almost half acre fenced back yard. Home never flooded and is in FEMA flood zone X. A free one year mechanical home warranty is included in the sale. There is lots of storage inside and out, easy exterior maintenance, and a location convenient to anywhere in Baton Rouge and beyond.

At $229,000, this home is a bargain for a family hunting for rooms (and bathrooms) for everyone. And the yard is large enough that you could even put in the pool that back patio and courtyard are screaming for.
