1/10/23: This story has been updated with new details.

Would-be thieves wanted to end 2022 with a bang and a Maserati. Instead, one got shot.

The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at the Pavilion on Lovers Lane, a busy shopping center in the 5600 block of Lovers Lane near Inwood Road. According to NBCDFW, Dallas Police on scene said three suspects approached a man walking to his vehicle, a Maserati, parked in front of Odelay Tex-Mex in an attempted carjacking.

Nearby eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and one of the alleged suspects sustained gunshot wounds. The injured suspect was transported to the hospital and the other two who were masked and armed fled on foot.

The gunshots sent diners in the restaurant and nearby Trader Joe’s scrambling for cover.

“Six, eight, maybe 10 [gunshots]. It was not one or two. It was a number of them,” eyewitness Thomas Gleason told NBCDFW. “Immediately, everyone just started to scatter like they would in a gunshot situation.”

Gleason, who has a permit to carry, said he pulled his gun as others fled towards the kitchen or dove under dining tables.

The Pavilion borders the Park Cities and is surrounded by multi-million dollar homes. The Pavilion and Inwood Village are robust shopping centers with multiple fine restaurants, salons, shops and stores. For years, this was the headquarters of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Real Estate.

Multiple Twitter reports offer unconfirmed details. Police haven’t identified the alleged suspects or the person who shot the suspect.

I spoke with an eyewitness who tells me a Good Samaritan in a car parked next to the Maserati shot the alleged suspect. He also said this may NOT have been an attempted carjacking: “I do not believe they were targeting the car, but rather waiting to jump somebody and picked him,” a source told Candy.

He also said there may have been a robbery at nearby Holy Ravioli.

But according to Zachary Moskowitz, a chef at Holy Ravioli, there were 2 masked individuals in the alley the Thursday before the attempted carjacking, which he personally reported.

“But that spread around and now the story has changed,” says Moskowitz. “There was NO robbery at Holy Ravioli, 100%. You may use my name.”

Additional attempted robberies could not be confirmed.
