Midtown as proposed 2015

As you may know, May 1 was Election Day for most municipal races in Texas. Run-offs for the races that did not have a 51 percent majority vote will take place on June 5.

Voting for your municipal representatives is one of the most important civic responsibilities you can exercise. Don’t know who to vote for? There are two important district debates coming up, one today at noon, and an event sponsored by one candidate this afternoon that may be of interest if you live near the former Valley View Mall and would like to see some real estate action there!

The North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas League of Women Voters, Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Dallas Breakfast Group, Faith Commons, Preston Hollow People, and the Hotel Association of North Texas are co-sponsoring forums for both District 13 and 11, starting today May 19 at noon for D13. The D11 forum is Friday, May 21 (click here to register). And if you miss the debates, no worries: we will post links to the videos right here.

And if you have always wanted to know why the Midtown development at the former Valley View Mall has looked like a wasteland during the last eight years of outgoing District 11 Councilman Lee Kleiman’s tenure at City Hall, now you can ask.

Hop on over there this afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. to hear why. Barry Wernick, who is the only candidate endorsed by all the Midtown developers, will talk about why Midtown has been delayed and give us a look at the future development that is finally starting to take shape. The event will be held on the Midtown property on the LBJ access road — it’s the Valley View Mall entrance on the LBJ access north between Preston and Montford Road.

Let us pray for a break from the rain, too!
