When you design a building, what’s the first thing you think about? Is it scale? Is it use? Is it presence?

What about how the building and the way it is designed is part of a larger goal of engaging a community? All of these questions and more can be discussed at the next AIA Dallas summer happy hour panel, “Designing in Active Voice: Avenues for Professional Advocacy.”

How can architects advocate for structures that benefit communities? Find out how at the July 16 Architecture on Tap hosted by AIA Dallas.

The discussion, which centers around what’s possible with good design, can help architects build an understanding around politics and policy. Learn how to influence development — from facade to function — from some of the most actively involved architects in the city. Panelists include AIA Dallas past president and vice president at Huitt-Zollars Inc. Zaida Basora, FAIA; Deep Ellum Foundation president Jon Hetzel; and City of Dallas senior planner Evan Sheets.

The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 16, at Pegasus City Brewery at 2222 Vantage Street. Seating is limited, so register in advance. Advance tickets are $10 for AIA Dallas members and $20 for non-members. Door prices are $15 for members, and $25 for non-members.
