An Original Midcentury in Richardson That’s Filled With Thoughtful Details

Creek Lots Always WinCleverly Concealed GarageIt’s All In The Details

You know a house is hot when you see it making the rounds on social media by agents other than the listing agent. That’s exactly the case with this way cool midcentury in Richardson. It’s one of those where you fall in love instantly, lose your cool, call the agent, and then by the time you go to write up the story, it’s already under contract.

Like this one is way cool, completely original, AND it was a builder’s personal home. There is so much potential here. You know we say that a lot in real estate, right? Bring your designer! And you’ve seen the memes, it’s usually code for, “We literally don’t even know what to say, but you’ve been warned.”

Creek Lots Always Win

Not this one though. It’s just amazing. It’s on one of the biggest lots in the neighborhood. Ebby Halliday’s Mitra Shamsa said most lots are .25 acre or .26 acre, but this one is a generous .37 acre and it backs to a creek. If you’re wondering if growing up here was idyllic, it was. Just ask the two kids that did.

They have so many great memories and one that’s a classic builder dad move. They said he would never let ANYONE touch the house. This was his baby. Every original detail remains.

Cleverly Concealed Garage

One of the things I love is the creative use of the front entry garage. We see garages out front all the time and with a creek behind you, it was obviously the best option. But instead of fighting it or making it stick out like a sore thumb, the builder integrated it into his design.

On this one, I’m in it for the light fixtures alone – so freaking cool. And the original linoleum. Man, cleaning used to be so indestructible and easy.

It’s All In The Details

Some of the other details that set this home apart are the built-in functional room divider in the main living area – with all our current open-concept living, maybe it’s time to bring this back. The utility room is huge, with built-in cabinets and a classic Formica countertop. Then there’s a set of curtains to conceal the washer and dryer — a definite builder-owner detail.

A small desk is built-in at the end of the countertops in the kitchen, which helps separate it from the secondary living room. The low bench in the secondary living creates seating around the fireplace and makes the room so incredibly functional. That’s the theme here — function. It’s filled with built-in desks and shelves and creative storage throughout.

It’s one-of-a-kind and again, not at all a shock it’s already under contract. I hope the new owner keeps a lot of the original design and simply updates it. It’s obvious so much care went into creating a space that was not only gorgeous and clever but incredibly functional as well.

Mitra Shamsa of Ebby Halliday Realtors listed 702 Laguna Drive at $355,000.
