A Fox & Jacobs in North Dallas With an ‘Accent’ Got a Top-Of-The-Line Overhaul

This little Midcentury Modern is one of Fox & Jacobs’ builds in the “Accent” line. It was the Fox & Jacobs answer to the California modern that everyone was clamoring for back in the mid-1950s.

The remodeler on this one is Jennifer Lubkin. Her remodels skew high-end anyway, but on this one she went extra high. It was going to be her personal home until a series of events lead her over to Lake Highlands.

Now this one’s hit the market with the top-of-the-line everything. We’re talking about a 17 SEER HVAC with all new ductwork.

New windows with a warranty made the utility bills drop low, low, low. There isn’t an attic, but Lubkin pointed out measures have been taken to keep it cool. Like a commercial grade white foam was added so you can touch the ceiling in the heat of summer and it’s cool to touch. The roof was done by the previous owner, a lady who had lived there since the 1970s. Lubkin said all she had to do was add gutters to complete the look.

The plumbing was solid when she purchased the house, but since then it’s been tested, tested, and retested. They’ve seen the plumbing firsthand, too, when they reversed the size of the bathrooms. For whatever reason — and please, someone tell me in the comments — the larger bathrooms in a lot of midcentury homes were in the hallway. Lubkin remedied that and made the primary bathroom the showstopper.

The cabinets are custom and painted by hand. The flooring alone was basically a budget blower.

In the kitchen, she opted for Quartz countertops with a mix of one and one-half inch thick butcher block that Lubkin oiled herself. It’s a chef’s dream, you can Slap Chop your way to homemade heaven.

The exterior just has that look — the Midcentury Modern look — but Lubkin said OH NO, that’s not how it started. She said it was overlandscaped, covered in vinyl siding, and had that red, red brick that was not cute. They cleaned it up, cooled it off, and added a little accent piece on the front.

This house has all the big stuff looked after, the foundation adjusted with a warranty, and they’ve done it right with energy efficiency, low flow toilets, and looks for days.
