Are there certain houses throughout your city that you’ve always had your eyes on, and have yearned to explore?
For me, there are many like that. Some homes are just massive castle-like dwellings that I can only imagine how over-the-top they must be. Others are in intriguing locations. Some just look unique from the outside and I’ve always wanted to check them out.
I Want To See Inside That Home
5224 El Campo in Fort Worth has always been one of those homes for me. Built in 2002 by local builder Village Homes, it has a look and style that were ahead of its time — that’s probably what first drew me to the home many years ago.
The year 2002 was a time when pretty much every new home was in the Mediterranean vein. No one was building Craftsman-style homes. No one thought Midcentury Modern would ever be en vogue again, and certainly, no one was considering the Contemporary farmhouse look to be the hot style just around the corner.
So, 5224 El Campo was definitely a fish out of water for the area in 2002. The home has tidbits of so many different styles … truly a melange of materials and eras.
If I were to classify this architectural style I would say it’s fresh, modern, contemporary, Italian, eclectic Craftsman with hints of Miami South Beach. That just about sums it up.
I’m not sure if it was the clean painted brick exterior with the vibrant mosaic tile entry, the industrial iron front door or the standing-seam metal roof that first caught my attention — all I knew is that I have wanted to go inside for the past 15 years.
Pops of Color
The 2000s was the decade of mosaic tile highlights. Around fireplaces, kitchen backsplashes and even on shower floors, mosaic tile showed up everywhere. It came in bright colors, mixed patterns, iridescent finishes, and made areas of homes really pop!
In 5224 El Campo, a beautiful Destin, Florida ocean water blue tile runs throughout this home to make areas come alive. Not only around the front iron door but on the backsplash of the butler’s pantry and kitchen, and the entire walk-in master shower.
Also popping with color is the swim-spa at the back of the home. Relax and enjoy in the 5 ft. infinity pool while grilling on the Twin-Eagle cooking surfaces and if it gets chilly, well then the Ronda Outdoor heaters will keep you warm.
Glad I Saw It
I passed by this home 15 years ago and wanted to go inside. It’s been that long because the current owners are the only owners the home has ever known.
There is so much more to share about this 3,472-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-and-one-half bath home, but you’ll have to see it for yourself.
