No monkeying around, Fort Worth gets to brag that it is the site of Texas’ oldest continuous zoo. Something to roar about, right?

And even though it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Fort Worth Zoo recently made some headlines. Founded in 1909, the zoo was listed this year in U.S. News & World Report as one of the 26 best zoos in the nation.

Fort Worth Zoo Facts

Located at 1989 Colonial Parkway, the zoo boasts 542 species of animals. The exhibits, its covered areas, its educational programs, and its walkways have contributed to the Fort Worth Zoo being rated the fifth zoo in the nation by USA Travel Guide, the top attraction in the Dallas-Fort Worth region by Zagat survey, and a top-10 zoo or aquarium by FamilyFun magazine.

The Fort Worth Zoo sits south of Interstate 30 among beautiful trees and not far from Texas Christian University and terrific shopping. Downtown Fort Worth, world-class museums, and the hospital district are all just minutes away. The area is a great place for monkeys, flamingos, and giraffes to live, but it’s also a very nice place for humans.
