The Village of Oak Park Neighborhood in Bedford Is Small But Mighty You Might Say

Right in the heart of the Mid-Cities lies the neighborhood of The Village of Oak Park, a bedroom community in Bedford that packs a big punch for a neighborhood its size.

The Village of Oak Park, whose total population numbers less than 500 residents, boasts a median home price of roughly $480,000, a rare affordable home in the Metroplex. But these aren’t small homes, either. The square footage for these predominately three- and four-bedroom homes ranges from roughly 1,800 to 3,200 square feet. Here homes are spacious, well-maintained, and affordable — a great combination.

Resident Mike Kellerman has called the Village of Oak Park home for 13 years and said he and his family have been quite content with the central Bedford community.

“We liked how the neighborhood was clean and there were not a ton of cars parked on the streets,” Kellerman said. “And then obviously, we fell in love with our house from the moment we first saw it.”

Described by the homeowner’s association website as a “master-planned community that’s ideal for families, with a quaint small-town atmosphere that’s still close enough to the city without losing its intimate neighborhood charm,” the Village of Oak Park offers a number of shopping, entertainment and recreational opportunities within walking distance or a short drive.

A close-knit community where neighbors know one another, the Village of Oak Park is “a quality residential community balanced with an environment for planned economic vitality,” according to its HOA.

In years past, the neighborhood has hosted various community events and activities, including gatherings that feature live music and catered by local restaurants.

“It was a great way to meet your neighbors,” Kellerman said.

The neighborhood is served by the Hurst-Euless-Beford School District with Trinity High School close by. Transportation is easy, too — the Village at Oak Park is a close drive to DFW Airport and near several major freeways.

Tucked between E. Harwood Road to the North, Hwy 157 to the East, Hwy 183 to the South, and Hwy 121 to the West, Kellerman said that one of the great things about the neighborhood is that it has a mixture of residents of all ages so that all people feel welcome.

“It is a wonderfully well-established community where people come to stay,” Kellerman said. “There are both young and older families throughout the neighborhood “

Reading Park in Bedford is a quaint one-bench park with a free little library of books to borrow on the honor system.
Nearby Stormie Jones Park is a 13-acre community park featuring a playground, pavilion, picnic area, restrooms, two soccer fields, and a volleyball court.

Kellerman said the high quality of living was one of the other things that initially drew him and his family to the neighborhood more than a decade ago.

“There is a low crime rate, great schools, libraries, and restaurants nearby, as well as easy access to HWY 121, 183, 114, and 161,” Kellerman said. “You can be on a major highway within a matter of minutes and DFW Airport is only 10 minutes away.”

The Village of Oak Park was established in 2001 and is located 15 miles from downtown Fort Worth and 20 miles from Downtown Dallas.
