The City of Frisco is accepting applications through Feb. 10 to serve on what might be one of the most important volunteer boards in the booming municipality’s immediate future.

City planners are updating Frisco’s comprehensive land use plan, specifically looking at the best use for 16 percent of the undeveloped property within the city limits.

The timing is crucial as Frisco is exploding with new growth and development.

Mayor Jeff Cheney pointed out that the U.S. Census Bureau continues to rank Frisco as one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.

“We applaud city councils and staff, past and present, for the thoughtful planning and visioning over the years,” Cheney said in a press release.  “But we also credit our volunteers who provide invaluable feedback and perspective that we just can’t provide in our positions. This is why we encourage you to apply.  If you’re not appointed, attend the public meetings and provide your feedback.”

Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee

Twenty-three volunteers will be appointed to serve on Frisco’s Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee. Seventeen will be appointed by the City Council, including three members who served on the 2015 CPAC, according to the Frisco news release.

“The remaining volunteers will come from selected city boards, as well as the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and the Frisco Independent School District,” the release states. “Committee members must live or do business in Frisco.”

The comprehensive land use plan is reviewed every few years “as growth and market conditions dictate,” Frisco officials said.

It’s clear that growth is on the rise with the massive Fields Frisco mixed-use development, Universal Studios Theme Park, PGA of America Headquarters, and two H-E-B grocery stores.

Residents can submit an application to serve on the CPAC before 5 p.m. Feb. 10.

CPAC’s Scope of Work

The Frisco CPAC will focus on topics like undeveloped land and long-term value, redevelopment, retail “over-zoning,” and established neighborhoods, said Director of Development Services John Lettelleir.

“Given recent corporate relocations and other major commercial development announcements, we’d like the committee members’ help to refine our vision for the future,” he said. “We’ll also be developing policies for zoning and development considerations. We’re looking to support some of our older, well-established neighborhoods with strategies for sustainability and resiliency.”

The CPAC will address aging populations, future land uses, walkability, connectivity, mobility, mixed-use developments along the Dallas North Tollway, city services, and transportation policies.
