I loaded photography and blocked out this knock-out listing feeling confident that, since it was only listed Thursday, it hadn’t been covered by my friendly rival, Seth Fowler of Tarrant County Tuesday fame. Then I dug deeper and discovered that Mr. Bow-Tie had beat me to the punch by three years.

Still, this house is so unique I decided it was worth another look.

Unusual in quietly genteel Crestwood, a neighborhood better known for gracious traditional-style architecture, this Midcentury Modern has been updated and “done to” to keep it relevant to the times.

Located at 304 Crestwood Drive it is embedded into a gentle slope and reached by a meandering terraced slab walkway. The stucco exterior and stacked roof lines give it a sleek modern front. This is one of the rare houses I’ve covered with a visible garage. But it is rather deftly handled with an angled placement.

From the street view, you wouldn’t suspect that the structure encloses over 4,300 square feet of living space and contains five bedrooms and five baths. Seth Fowler covered the two-year renovation in his before-and-after article. The work was undertaken by Ron Carter Construction. Some of the alterations are definitely improvements, such as the reworked warehouse-style kitchen and the renovated, glam baths. But I’m of two minds about whether the concrete floors really represent an upgrade to the lost hardwoods.

The living room, with its wall of windows skirting the pool, is undeniably stunning. Rhythmic square clerestory windows give a sense of nearly musical brio and add more light to the loft-like room.

The black-on-black kitchen is dramatic. Exposed ductwork and steel counters on the island bar emphasize the industrial nature of the scheme, with the rest of the countertops covered in a rich black-and-white stone. Naturally, the refrigerator, ovens, and cooktops are top-notch.

The house wraps the pool with a wonderful long gallery that is ideal for art at back. Ditto the massive principal suite, which also benefits from dreamy pool views.

The bath is a melange of luxury and loft-like elements, such as the concrete floor and steel basins. The grey-and-white marble counter offers an elegant contrast. The shower stall is positively massive.

When is an organic pool acceptable? When it is wrapped by the house which embraces it.

What have three years’ time done to the price of 304 Crestwood Drive? Not all of that much. This super appealing modern marvel is priced less than 9 percent above its 2019 asking price. That’s below the 27 percent jump in the median Fort Worth house price appreciation.

Joseph Berkes of Williams Trew Real Estate has priced 304 Crestwood Drive at $1.8 million.
