Every week, the detail-oriented folks at Green Scene Home Inspections will give Daltxrealestate.com readers an education in inspection. Want to see what they see? Tune in  for “Upon Closer Inspection.”

Home Inspectors spend a lot of time in the parts of a house where most people don’t go: the crawl space, the attic, the nooks and crannies. So it’s no surprise that we encounter more than our fair share of creepy crawlies. Here are a few of the pests we run into here in North Texas.

Spiders

Nothing to give you the heebie-jeebies like the thought of hundreds of baby spiders emerging from this egg sac. If you find a spider egg sac, best to call pest control so they can make sure it’s disposed of properly and treated to prevent further infestation.

Snakes

We found multiple shed snake skins in the wall. Insulation is a nice cozy place for snakes to hide and build a nest. If you find a snakeskin (or its previous owner) inside the walls, attic, or crawlspace, pest control can help you find how they’re getting in and get rid of any unwanted roommates you’ve acquired.

Scorpions

Scorpions are attracted to your home in the summertime to get away from the heat. They are looking for a cool, dark place to hide, and they need water and insects to eat. Crawl spaces, woodpiles, attics, and garages are common places to find these horrific-looking creatures. The good news is that the scorpions common to North Texas aren’t terribly venomous.

Fun fact: scorpions glow in the dark!

Termites

These little devils can sometimes be hard to get rid of. In this video, we came back to check after the home was treated.
