Wynnewood North is Hot, and We’ve Found the Perfect Mid-century Modern

The secret is out — Wynnewood North is hot.  Located just south of the Bishop Arts District, and only three miles to downtown, it’s one of the larger neighborhoods of Oak Cliff. In 2012, the Dallas Observer named Wynnewood North the Best Neighborhood in Dallas, and it just keeps getting better.

Wynnewood, you may have guessed, is named after the Wynne family. Yes, that Wynne family — the same genius behind  Six Flags Over Texas. Construction on the self-contained, planned community began in 1946 and was almost complete by the mid 1950s.

Angus G. Wynne Jr. was tasked with creating quality homes, economically, but with individuality. Not a very tall order was it? He succeeded, of course, and those homes are just as solid today, as the day they were built. Families are flocking into these ultra-cool, split-level, mid-century modern homes and our Friday Four Hundred is a perfect example of why they are so appealing  to a new generation of buyers.

GetMedia.ashx_-5-1024x768“Anyone who is a fan of  the mid-century modern style will love 509 Hoel Drive,” listing agent Amy Sack, with Dave Perry-Miller, said. The home is a 1955 gem set into lush landscape on a heavily treed lot, imparting a feeling of privacy and serenity. Designed by award-winning architect Forrest Upshaw Jr. the 2,235-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is awash with light.

“My favorite features are the dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows in the living and dining room areas, drawing the serene landscape indoors,” Sack said. “There’s also a playscape on the main level, which is perfect for keeping a close eye on the kids.”

The galley kitchen has a sleek-yet-vintage feel, with blond wood cabinets and dark stone countertops.

Every bedroom has a view of the trees. There’s no need to count sheep when you can be lulled to sleep by the swaying branches.

The bathroom updates include under-mount sinks and a frameless shower — exactly what today’s buyers are looking for. Retaining the tub in the guest bath was a smart move. Anyone who thinks tubs are on the way out is wrong. Every home needs one.

A spacious lower-level living area is used by the present owners as an art studio. “It opens onto a raised garden where they’re growing tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as shishito, serrano, and jalapeño peppers,” Sack said. Gazpacho, anyone?

There are three distinct outdoor living areas. The playscape, the lower level raised garden area, and the saltwater pool — completely gated for the safety of any kiddos on the property.

GetMedia.ashx_-5-1024x768“It’s been a heartbreaker for my clients to have to give up this amazing home after relocating here from Germany last December,” Sack said. “But when opportunity knocks, you’ve got to jump.” And that’s exactly what you should do this weekend. Jump in the car, drive over to Wynnewood, and make an offer on this fantastic property. For $485,000, it’s about the best Father’s Day gift we can think of!
