SOUTHLAKE-1900-Shady-Oaks-Front

Oh how they live in Southlake! The estates are bigger, the homes heftier, and everyone, it seems, has a zip line and a swimming pool environment in their back yard.

We scoped out 1900 Shady Oaks Drive listed by Ebby Halliday’s Quinn & Marcontell Group to give us a look at how large folks are living in Southlake just west of DFW International. Price tag on this puppy: $5,500,000.

Let me just put it this way — out here, 8,000 square feet is considered an average-sized home.

There are 8,882 square feet of glorious living space, from mega formals (including four living areas, to a hearth room and loft in the library, a card room and housekeeper’s living quarters over the garage), outdoor patio, kitchen and bar, pool (natch), a ten acre lot with koi pond and stocked tank, pasture, enough room for horses and even a barn, and automatic gates around the whole thing.

What I love best, though, is the pizza oven in the kitchen.

Take that back: I love the humongous master bedroom with its own private garden and a sitting room.

Looking at the way this house is decked out, it is a little “O”ver the top, but as I looked at the photos, I kept getting this craving for pizza — likely that pizza oven.

Then I remembered: the interiors are bringing back a deja vue of fun times at Crystal’s Pizza and Spaghetti on Inwood Road at Forest. Yes, I recall many a fun dinner and birthday parties galore at Crystals where you could grab a yummy pizza and salad and head to the theater to watch a movie, or partake of the video arcade, a major draw for kids pre-iPhone.

If you grew up in Dallas in the 1970s and ’80s, Crystal’s was THEE place to go for fun.

The chain was actually started in Abilene by restaurateur Bill Waugh, who also founded Taco Bueno and Burger Street. The Oklahoma born entrepreneur died in January of 2015 at the age of 79.

And the last Crystals, in Irving, shuttered it’s doors on the night of Sunday, February 19th, 2013.

But buy this Colleyville house, and you can have Crystal’s Pizza and Spaghetti forever!
