You Can Boat to the Magnolia Silos From This Waterfront Home in Waco

Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate agent Laura Wiswall remembers when Waco was, well, just Waco — her hometown. Home of the Baylor Bears, the Dr Pepper Museum, and the cheekily-named burger joint named Health Camp. This week’s Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Dallas mortgage expert Lisa Peters of Cardinal Financial introduces us to a whole other Waco that’s become a must-stop mecca for home design fans and a luxury riverfront home where you can practically boat to Magnolia.

Wiswall of course is referring to the explosive redevelopment of Downtown Waco, where TV home renovators Chip and Joanna Gaines have built a massive shopping complex at downtown’s rustic twin silos called Magnolia. The two-block market has a bakery, garden shop, food truck courtyard, and Magnolia-branded stores that showcase Joanna Gaines’s designs and home goods. Hey, I was skeptical too until I saw it, and yeah, it’s impressive and a big deal for not just Waco, but the state of Texas.

“It’s been really interesting to see this development of Waco,” Wiswall says. “It’s a whole evolution of my hometown.”

That’s why Wiswall’s excited to list this five-bedroom home at 989 Greenwood Lane in Waco, located right on the Brazos River and “where you can see Downtown Waco from the multiple decks of this home,” Wiswall says.

(Keep reading for complete boating directions to the silos from this home.)

The 2008-built home has 3,406 square feet on a 0.47-acre waterfront lot. Walk in to find high ceilings, windows that look out onto the river, and a smart semi-open floor plan. The living room, dining room, and kitchen all open to one another, but the zig-zag of the home’s floor plan creates little vignettes of living space. It works.

The kitchen was recently renovated with high-end granite countertops and fixtures, and shows off its olivey sage-painted cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Do you spy the mini island in there? The answer is yes and why not. The kitchen opens to a cozy living room with a wood-burning fireplace.

The primary suite offers French doors to a step-out patio with waterfront views, and a primary bath that has a standalone shower, corner jetted tub, and a sizable walk-in closet.

Retreating upstairs, the home has a home theater, a billiards room with wet bar, and a balcony with tree-top views of the Brazos River below.

Of course, one of the most attractive features of this property is its waterfront location with a covered dock and landscaped backyard. The home has a private boat ramp and a drive-through boat slip that allow easy access to the river. You can enjoy sailing, fishing, or kayaking on the water, or take your boat to downtown Waco, where you can find the famous Magnolia Silos, many restaurants, and Baylor McLane sailgating.

Now, let me quickly map this to give you an idea of how close this home is to Downtown Waco (because Google doesn’t offer driving directions by boat.)

From your boat dock, hop on your vessel and head left on the river. Go under the Lake Shore and MLK Blvd. bridges, and hook a left at Cameron Park. Keep boating until you go under the old suspension bridges, and hop out at Lake Brazos Park. Wave to your designated boater, walk half a mile, and you’re there — All the pretty things you can buy for your new riverfront home at the Magnolia Home store.

If you hit the stadium, you’ve gone too far.
