When we first spotted this two-story southern traditional near White Rock Lake, we thought it must be one of those adorable original vacation lake cottages from the 1920s that had been beautifully remodeled. Well, we were wrong — it’s only 11 years old!
Built in 2005, the 3,733-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is at 9259 Peninsula, in the heart of the Peninsula neighborhood. This is where the movers and shakers of early Dallas built their lake cottages. Remember, back in 1927, White Rock Lake was far, far away.
There is an eclectic mix of only 280 homes in the neighborhood. Some of the original cottages remain but more and more you see brand new builds by notable local architects like Cliff Welch and Chase Corker. What we love about this one is that it truly pays homage to those original lake cottages.

“When I first walked in, I felt like I was in an original period home,” listing agent Jan McElroy with Ebby Halliday Realtors said. “The architectural detailing is so understated and classic.” Of course, as it’s not a period home, there are all the modern amenities today’s buyers look for, including an open floor plan, spacious bathrooms, and a master bedroom with a fireplace.

If it were not for the fabulous two-story screened porches, our favorite spot would likely be the master bathroom. Why doesn’t every builder think about installing a mini fridge and coffee bar in every bathroom they build? Pure genius.
The beauty of the Peninsula neighborhood is, of course, that you are mere blocks from the shores of White Rock Lake. So, living in this house means you don’t have to cross any major roads to bike, hike, jog, or walk the dogs. You can just meander down to the lake, and enjoy the sunset.
Guess what? Many Dallas residents are repeating history and purchasing a second home at White Rock Lake. That is, if they can find one. These don’t come along very often, and when they do, they’re snapped up quickly. Rumor has it that several Realtors have lists of buyers wanting a spot near the lake — and those are long lists.
Fortunately, this beauty just went on the market a few days ago for $1.096 million. The open house is on Sunday. We suggest you arrive early!
Open House: Sunday Oct. 23, 2-4 p.m.
