Architect-designed homes make for stylish living, and our Thursday Three Hundred is a rare treat. This updated contemporary two-story condo was designed by renowned Dallas architect Lionel Morrison, inspired by the work of German-American modern architect Mies van der Rohe.

Located at 3920 Travis St. Apt. 16, this Uptown condo is awash with natural light, designed to feel spacious and bright with big windows, doors, and skylights. It has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bathroom, and 1,262 square feet, built in 1985. The tony location is just blocks from the West Village, Katy Trail, and Cole Park.

It was listed June 17 by Faisal Halum with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty for $375,000. Monthly HOA fees are $320 and include blanket insurance, exterior maintenance, gas, management fees, sprinkler system, trash, and water/sewer.

Here’s a description of Morrison from significanthomes.com:

Dallas architect, Lionel Morrison, working in concert with Susan Seifert, has created the largest body of modern work in Dallas. He is a reductionist whose austere design celebrates space, the interaction of volume and voids. His buildings painted do not distract from the space with ornamental color, generally relying on white for exterior and wall surfaces. Lionel Morrison can also be credited with introducing the first modern single-family attached home in Dallas found along the Katy Trail. His clean, stark architecture is recognizable as is the influence of his early employer, architect E. G. Hamilton. Both Morrison and Hamilton preferred an open plan versus rooms and cubicles. Mies van der Rohe was an inspiration for both, as was the Barcelona Pavilion that had clean spaces and walls of one surface, either marble or wood. Single planes of unadorned material cutting through public and private spaces on the interior and exterior, define his buildings.

This condo has his hallmark style, with white everywhere, clean lines, large volumes of open space, and beautiful play of light and dark. The home features two outdoor patios, high ceilings, and white-washed hardwoods throughout the downstairs area. There is also art lighting and a wood-burning fireplace in a living room. The galley kitchen is elegant simplicity, with light-colored flat-front cabinets and contemporary handles. There are also stainless steel appliances, including a built-in microwave and refrigerator-freezer.

Both bedrooms are upstairs, and the master has a bedroom awash in cool marble with a skylight, frameless glass shower, and European-style flat-front wood cabinets. The guest room has its own full bathroom with Walker Zanger contemporary tile and a frameless glass shower panel. The unit also has a private courtyard with black river rocks and a privacy fence.

These condos have a gated entry, and the secured parking for this unit includes two spaces and private storage space.

With its fantastic location, you can walk to get shopping, dinner, and a movie at the West Village, and look forward to coming home to this contemporary condo with its sleek, chic style.
