This week’s Fort Worth Friday sprang from a Dallas/Fort Worth Thursday. On the hunt at Nick Brock, one of my favorite antique shops in Dallas, I had the pleasure of running into one of my favorite Fort Worth designers, Tara Took, and meeting another Fort Worth designer, Adana Agee.

“Where in Fort Worth do you live?” I asked my new friend, Adanna.

“In Berney Park.”

“Berney Park?”

“It’s a subdivision of Ridglea, off Camp Bowie, near La Madeleine,” she explained.

“Oh, I don’t know it. Anything for sale there?” I inquire. I knew it was coming…

“There is a great house on the corner of my street,” she informs me.

Thusly, short story long, that is how we arrive at 6200 Curzon. ‘Great house’ in this instance, is an understatement. Sitting on an a large, near-acre lot, the façade’s V shape, formed from two wings, takes advantage of the corner lot, lush with mature trees. The Spanish style recalls bygone Hollywood glamor.

Step inside, and experience pure 1920s glamor. Though builder standards in that era were much higher than now, the myriad unique features and thoughtful, high style suggests the design of a talented architect  The vestibule is bounded on one side by a unique turning staircase with period ironwork, illuminated by an original stained glass window. Step down to the living room with original wide planked hardwood floors. Ceilings barrel vault over arched doors and the fireplace. Overhead lighting is comprised of exposed spots which recall museum gallery lighting.

The dining room features a rich specialty-finish ceiling and the same pegged hardwood floors. It leads to a bonus living area.

Take in the large chefs kitchen with eight feet of range. Polished concrete counter tops look like natural stone. The symmetrically positioned slab-doored cabinets strike a modern note but complement the house. Pocket doors can completely close off the kitchen from the rest of the house. Additional storage lines the corridor behind.

If this house lacks anything, I defy you to find it. The wine cellar has storage for 2,000 bottles.

Abundant windows flood the master bedroom with light. The master is part of a full-fledged suite with a very modern, very generous, closet and glam bathroom. The nearly 5,000-square-foot house contains four bedrooms and four and one half baths.

A large Palladian pools backs up to the house. There is an additional reflecting pool. A terrace with a fireplace overlooks all of this. Though as listing agent puts it, “You can feel the history,” the residence has every conceivable modern convenience. “If this house were north of  I-30, in 76107, it would have been snapped up long ago,” she tells me. “You really need to see the house and walk the property to see how special this place is. So many stories have been lived here and so many more stories to be lived,” she adds. A birds-eye-view gives an impression of the estate like extent of the grounds. full-54
