This Santa Fe-Styled Hangar Home in Tarrant County Has ‘Wow Factor’

In the words of broker Ryan Cox, his listing “literally looks like Taos or Santa Fe, New Mexico,” except it’s in an air hangar.

Cox is selling a three-story airport property at Hicks Airfield in unincorporated Tarrant County that is definitely Southwestern-centric.

“It definitely has a wow factor,” Cox says.

From the outside, the property looks like your standard airplane hangar. Inside, it’s a different world. Integrated into the hangar is a Pueblo-style facade to the living areas. This front or living entrance is painted in an earth-tone hue and features vigas, wooden doors, and all the rustic accents you’d expect in a Pueblo-style home.

The 3,520-square-foot hangar space can accommodate a small airplane and three cars with a Pueblo-style storage room. The living areas are on the first and second floors with 2,283 square feet of open attic storage available on the third floor, which is accessible by an electric elevator.

The earth tones and stucco walls continue in the living areas with viga beams, Spanish-style wide doorways, and niches throughout the 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath residence. The first floor includes a pilot’s lounge and two bedrooms.

The second floor features a kiva fireplace and an outdoor balcony that overlooks the hangar. It also has two bedrooms with an open living room and a full stainless steel kitchen with ranch views to the east. The second floor also includes a den and utility room with washer and dryer hookups.

The property, which is at 727-733 Aviator Drive off Bonds Ranch Road, also comes with two adjacent lots that are approximately 80- by 80-feet each.

Hicks Airfield is a 77-acre public-use airport 14 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth. Residents can park their aircraft in their hangar homes.

Cox has listed 729 Aviator Drive at $997,500, but you won’t find it in MLS listings at the owner’s request. The property can only be found in various airport real-estate listing publications or on Cox’s website.

Ryan Cox

Cox has spent his career focused on aviation. He has more than 20 years of experience in aviation-related real estate and airport development and has managed Meacham International Airport and Spinks Airport in Fort Worth.

Cox said the seller was an aviation buff. In some cases, hangar homes can accommodate showroom space for antique vehicles or other storage purposes.

“She wants to make sure it still says aviator-related,” Cox says.
