At 319 N. Edgefield Avenue in Winnetka Heights there’s an airplane bungalow that’s one of the most iconic properties in the neighborhood.

And in case you’re not 100 percent familiar with an airplane bungalow, Dave Perry-Miller’s Michael Mahon broke it down – if you’re looking head on at the house, there’s essentially a pop-up second story over a prominent front porch and on either side of the home, the first floor “wings” out on both sides. Like an airplane. Now we all nod our heads collectively and say, “Ahhh, I see.”

What’s so special about this house? Well, everything. In January 2020, we told you the incredible journey this Oak Cliff home has been on, from near desuetude to its current glory. The sellers, Karen and Barry French, completely remodeled it and the thought, labor, and materials that went into it are beyond exceptional. In fact, they partnered with award-winning designers Peters-Cates Design to reimagine the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 3,081-square-foot space.

When the owners were told they needed to replace approximately 75 percent of the piers below, they went ahead and replaced 100 percent. When they moved in, they had hopes of expanding the main house, but with the Winnetka Height Historic District restrictions, that wasn’t an option. Instead, they did what they do and made efficient use of every single inch in their delightfully lavish home.

They’re incredibly conscientious and they didn’t just go above and beyond with their updates for the heck of it, they did it because it’s the right thing to do. That’s just who they are.

The pool outback is literally one of the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen so, of course, that was their addition, too. There’s also a cottage out there and they didn’t scrimp on those details either. The level of finish out is the same as the main house and I think the word I’m looking for is amazing. It’s just not something you see every day.

The cottage is a two story as well and they created the downstairs as a studio for their son, Charlie French, an artist with talent to spare. (He is currently working on a collaboration with Vans Shoes.) Upstairs there’s essentially an on-site apartment with a fully-functioning (and stunning) bathroom.

Shockingly, it’s not under contract yet, but I’m sure it will be soon. Mahon said the first day it was on the market, they realized they needed to limit the length of individual showings. Agents and potential buyers found the home so inviting, it was hard to leave. How did he know? He was there. That’s part of his full-service philosophy. He meets every potential buyer at the property to offer the most thoughtful and knowledgeable tour imaginable. He said he gave that tour no less than thirteen times that day and no doubt there have been many, many more since then.

If you’d like to take a look, definitely do. Mahon will likely be on hand to show you around. He has 319 N. Edgefield listed at $899,000.
