This Ju-Nel Jewel in Eastwood Just Hit The Market

If you have dreams of the dreamiest Midcentury Modern with an open concept, repoured Terrazzo floors, and one of the most recognized names in the builder game, get ready to live.

The single-story home with full guest quarters out back – that according to Compass’ Laura Reynolds isn’t even included in the 2,178 square feet listed – located at 10476 Silverock Drive in Eastwood is a Ju-Nel. It’s been reported here before, but in case you missed it, the name Ju-Nel comes from the wives of the firm’s founders, Julie and Nelda.

And just as a casual, let-me-toss-it-out-there three paragraphs in … this home was designed by Lyle Rowley for the head of the American Terrazzo Company. The other half of Ju-Nel was Jack Wilson. They started Ju-Nel in 1958 and there are about 50 homes around White Rock Lake in Eastwood like this one, Casa Linda, Old Lake Highlands, and Lake Park Estates.

A Legendary Ju-Nel

When the home is that of a legend, it tends to be a little extra fabulous. This one is for sure.

Ju-Nel designs were all about treed, irregular lots and working with the elevation of the street. They designed each custom home to fit the natural slopes of the land and had a hard-and-fast rule about cutting down any tree that was over 4 inches in diameter. (The rule was obviously don’t even think about it.)

Because they worked with the lot as it was, the interiors resulted in several “levels” as you’ll find on Silverock. They were also pioneers in open-concept living, doing it long before it was cool.

The “levels” help to define the space where would-be walls are graciously missing. By removing walls, they also remove barriers to looking out the many, MANY floor-to-ceiling windows and seeing that gorgeous greenery right outside.

Other notables here include the Terrazzo floors (hello, American Terrazzo Company), which we covered already, and another Ju-Nel staple, a copper-capped fireplace.

The owners have a tremendous appreciation of this home’s original design and when it came time to redo the kitchen, they kept it clean with striking wood cabinets and just the barest touch of red.

If you’d like to own a legend, take a good long look at 10476 Silverock Drive. Reynolds has it listed at $799,000.
