The Sweetest Storybook Cottage Can Be Found in Northern Hills

I don’t think any of us at Daltxrealestate.com were surprised that this Northern Hills storybook cottage was a fan favorite.  It really is the storybook cottage of our childhood fantasies. To find it as a reality resonates on a level so deep, it’s not surprising it has only changed ownership a handful of times.

Tucked into a neighborhood most people have no idea exists, it’s one of the oldest homes in the area. Architect and commercial artist Guy Cahoon built this storybook cottage with a charming blend of red fieldstone, tapestry brick, and overlapping board and set it well back into the trees, furthering  that magical appearance. If this home sounds familiar, it’s because you saw it right here on Daltxrealestate.com in June.

Northern Hills neighborhood is a conservation district of only 61 houses. Not only are the homes protected, so is the vast canopy of trees that tower over and around them, offering an unprecedented level of privacy. No two are alike, and many are passed between family members. Of course, there have been updates over the years.  Dan Shipley received the 2002 D Magazine Residential Addition/Renovation Award for his beautiful addition that blends seamlessly with the original structure.

As one of the oldest homes in Northern Hills, this is a true landmark,” Gioa said. “With a spring-fed creek, you always hear the sound of water trickling. One of the most amazing things is you feel as if you are in a treehouse, wherever you are. The whole property simply glows at dusk. This home represents a scale and style of living that is both genuine and gracious.

It’s not every day that one can step through an almost-hidden iron gate in Northern Hills and meander across a small stone bridge to approach a storybook 1925 home. The gurgle of the creek, the soaring canopy of trees, the blankets of perennial flowers: It all sets the stage for one of the most captivating, romantic homes in the city. —LeeLee Gioia, listing agent, Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty

Some of our comments on this house included “ I love it.”  “Magical.” “Perfection!”

Briggs Freeman’s Rob Brinkley submitted this classic storybook cottage and said, “Nothing tops it for sheer charm and setting.” And that’s what makes it one of Daltxrealestate.com’s Sweetest Homes of 2020!
