The Prestonwood Estates Home That’s Been Renovated With a Magic Door

I always get excited when I see Loren Hall’s name next to a listing because I know it’s a guarantee of greatness, but how about a little magic? This week’s Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Dallas mortgage broker Lisa Peters of Cardinal Financial, does not disappoint as it takes us to one of our favorite North Dallas neighborhoods, Prestonwood Estates for a stunning to-the-studs renovation.

Hall knows the territory well as she has listed and sold some stunning home renovations throughout this cluster of Far North Dallas homes with Richardson ISD schools, including this before-and-after makeover beauty on Tophill Lane we wrote about.

But this featured home, which just hit the market this morning, has a touch of modern whimsy that’s evident the minute you pull up to the front door.

Cedar wood planks perfectly frame a modern metal-and-glass pivot door — one of the hottest trends in luxury home design we hear. If you’re unfamiliar, a pivot door doesn’t have the three traditional hinges on one side you’re used to. Instead, the oversized door has vertically aligned hinges that are attached to the door’s top and bottom.

The effect is like Disney Magic, where Cinderella gives the door a “Bibbidi-Bobbidi” and it floats open with fairy dust. (Plus, it’s wide enough for your pumpkin carriage.)

“Honestly, the pivot door is my absolute favorite part of the home,” Hall said. “But the entire home is modern with lots of character.”

It’s a spacious four-bedroom and four-bath with 3,128 square feet, set on more than a quarter-acre in sought-after Prestonwood Estates off Hillcrest between Belt Line and Arapaho.

The 1972-built home is large but not too big. Cozy but not cluttered. And inside, there’s a crispness that’s felt from the sanded cedar ceiling beams down to the white oak wood floors.

“The owner took the home down to the studs, but he didn’t just tear everything out,” Hall said. “Anything that had character, he kept. But those elements were either refreshed or reworked to meet today’s needs.”

Case in point, the owner converted a walled-off formal living room into a flex space that’s staged here as an oversized dining room. But this area is huge so you could easily create a home office space that’s set apart from the open living space.

Before [2015] and after [2023]

The home has a reimagined chef’s kitchen that features a complete set of stainless steel appliances, custom cabinetry, an expansive waterfall island that seats four, and a massive walk-in pantry with floating shelves, pull-out drawers, and polished countertops that match the kitchen island.

Also massive is the utility room with a laundry sink and floating shelves. It’s so nice in there I wouldn’t mind carving out a corner for a home office.

Finally, the primary bedroom features a completely reimagined primary bath with his and hers walk-in closets. There’s a standalone vessel tub and a curbless, frameless shower with dual shower heads — in other words, luxury.

Loren Hall of Compass RE Texas has listed 7115 Hunters Ridge Drive for $979,900. She’s hosting an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
