The North Dallas Home That Will Inspire You to Get Hosting

If you like to entertain, or like the idea that someday you might entertain, or have ever said the word entertain in a complete sentence and maybe chocolate fountain, too, then you know you need a certain type of home.

One that flows, that’s a given. One with ample parking and ideally a porte cochere like this one that you’ll have to imagine I’m pointing at.

One with a grand foyer to welcome people in and one with inviting spaces that encourage people to sit and stay awhile.

What about a pass-through wet bar that leads right to the kitchen where you’ll have the most elegant display of crudites? AN ENTERTAINER’S HOUSE.

What if you’re up for a BBQ? Not a problem in this house because there’s a dang built-in grill under a covered patio though for some reason, I want to call it a veranda. Which it technically is, but I think we’re going more “arbor” these days or simply “covered patio.” The point is – MEAT. VEGGIES. PIZZA. Grill ‘em all!!

And one with a pool. It’s summer, y’all. I’m pretty sure we all got the memo when our core body temperatures haven’t dropped in one month. A pool is more required in Texas than those cheese-head hats are in Wisconsin.

The kitchen opens to the living area and we already know it opens to the pool thus creating an entertainer’s power loop. If you want one more that adds to the mingle – the wall to the dining room is partially removed (GASP) providing ample seating to all those crudite havers.

Now one thing I absolutely freaking love about this house that’s not tied to entertaining? The stone fireplace in the office. It’s such a late 1970s, early 1980s staple. We had one growing up and it is now and forever the best.

Other things that Dave Perry-Miller’s Valerie Neely pointed out? Walking distance to two schools – Haggar Elementary and Shelton Private School. It’s also close to the Dallas North Tollway and tons of great restaurants.

Valerie Neely has listed 5724 Plumtree Drive for $815,000 and it will be open today, Sunday July 2 from 1 to 3 p.m.
