Texas Live! To Undergo $810 Million Expansion
Arlington’s Texas Live! entertainment venue, hotel, and convention center is undergoing an $810 million expansion.
The Cordish Cos. joined the city of Arlington, Texas Rangers, and Loews Corp. to develop the second phase of the development with funds from a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.
The new construction will include the following:
- 200,000 sf of office space
- An 888-room hotel with 150,000 square feet of meeting space
- 100,000 sf of retail and restaurant space
- 280 apartments
- 2,000 parking spaces
- Business incubator space.
The new Loews Arlington Hotel will be connected to the Arlington Convention Center. Construction is expected to be completed by 2023.
The entire second phase is expected to create 3,000 jobs and have a $1.8 billion economic impact.

AIA Dallas And Architecture Foundation Names New Director
Zaida Basora was recently named executive director of the Dallas chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Architecture and Design Foundation.
The appointment comes after an eight-month search.
“Basora’s experience in both the public and private sectors as an architect, client, consultant, and advocate, as well as her engagement and leadership in diverse boards and committees … brings a unique experience to the role and a blend of skills and knowledge that will continue to advance the mission of both organizations,” officials said in a press release.
Basora previously led the architectural practice for Huitt-Zollars’ Dallas office and served as sustainability manager for the firm. She also worked for more than 20 years at the city of Dallas, primarily as assistant director of public works over facilities.
“Our search committee was looking for an engaging, experienced, respected, and proven executive director to lead AIA Dallas and the Architecture and Design Foundation, two organizations at the center of a growing chapter, city, and North Texas region,” said 2019 AIA Dallas President Richard Miller. “We believe Zaida Basora is just that leader. Zaida’s involvement in the AIA at the local, state, and national level gives her the well-earned credibility which is representative of her passion, commitment, and respect within the profession. She has a robust sphere of influence due to her unique background and history that makes her a huge benefit to our members and community.”
