It’s not something you expect to find on a buyer’s list of “must haves,” but this backyard is the perfect site for an epic Easter egg hunt.

Our privilege, as adults, is to turn the tables on Easter. You see, when I was growing up as the youngest of five kids in a Houston suburb, Easter was the morning of a humidity-soaked blood sport, when all five of us kids would careen through my parents’ sizable and heavily treed backyard in an effort to snatch the most Easter eggs from the most bizarre places. Bird feeders, tree limbs, fence posts — all were fair game. Afterward, we’d get dressed in our Easter togs and head to church. When we’d return home, my father would take the hard-boiled-and-pastel-dyed eggs and make a rainbow-colored potato salad to go with our Easter ham. The boasting of who snatched the most Easter eggs continued through the day.

So maybe your shift as the Easter bunny won’t be as competitive as it was when I was growing up, but our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week is perfect for hunting Easter eggs as it has a fantastic side yard and backyard on more than a third of an acre, complete with a pool! In fact, Jenny Capritta, listing agent for 9512 Milltrail Drive, says that this property is an Easter egg all in itself as it is rare to find a Lake Highlands Home with such a sizable lot and a pool.

Finding this particular Lake Highlands home was a challenge for the current owners, Capritta said. They had a very defined list of needs, so their search was lengthy.

“It is not only a one-story home, one but level,” Capritta pointed out. “The current owner toured 83 homes before finding this home without a sunken living room, which was popular in the ’70s era.”

Another key attribute was the floor plan, Capritta said. “I love the layout. The bedroom three-way split rocks,” she said. “There’s a fifth bedroom with ensuite full bath off the kitchen, which is ideal for a multi-generational household, a home office, or mother-in-law suite. Though the master and three-bedroom, two-bath wing are separate, they are not too far away should someone have a little one.”

The home office at 9512 Milltrail Drive in Lake Highlands has its own full bath, and could easily be a second master suite.

Those who appreciate a more purpose-driven floor plan will love that the galley kitchen is intact and hasn’t been blown out to accommodate desires for an open floor plan. Likewise, there’s a lovely breakfast nook which can function as the kids’ table during holiday entertaining. The family room is just off of the kitchen and breakfast area, with views and access to the backyard. The fireplace and moulding anchor the traditional feel of this home, which is deceptively spacious at 3,214 square feet. Altogether there are five bedrooms, four bathrooms, two dining rooms, and two living rooms. The master suite was recently remodeled with a large, frameless glass shower and double vanity, as well as trendy wood-look tile floors.

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for. Take a visual tour of this backyard and tell me if you aren’t already hiding eggs in those gravel paths, behind those rocks, or in the raised garden beds. Bonus points for those who can hide eggs in plain sight around the landscaping near the back patio, which comes with a gas grill.

She’s listed this Lake Highlands traditional ranch at 9512 Milltrail Dr. for $525,000.
