Say It Isn't So: The Bathtub Is DEAD? (And Dual Toilets?)

Toilet-in-Kitchen-575x382Four out of ten bathroom remodelers SKIPPING the bathtub? BAH! This according to Diana Oates over at CultureMap, who got it from the horse’s mouth at HOUZZ.

Well, that’s just dumb. I practically live in my bathtub. Who are these people?

Master bathroom suites RULE when you redo your nest. It’s like this for value city: kitchen, master bath, secondary baths and outdoor kitchen. But a new report from Houzz unveils, says Diana, “surprising trends about what people are choosing to include — or exclude, in some cases.”

The bathtub is one! And whatever happened to modesty? More than half the folks surveyed are making the porcelain throne public, choosing to leave their new master toilet exposed and in the open.

Next thing you know, they’ll just stick it in the kitchen like they did in this London flat!

Thank God homeowners age 35 and older have more sense: they are more likely to keep their potties private. This age group is also more likely to have two commodes in the master bath. Totally saves marriages.

Speaking of loos, Diana also tells us that 91 percent of remodelers are selecting high-efficiency toilets for the redo. And more than a quarter of young homeowners are eschewing the traditional two-piece model in favor of tankless or wall-mounted options.

Me, I am not so fond of the low-flush water tanks, especially in investment properties. Why? They are difficult to flush, which means they can overflow and create a mess.

Double sinks are on the rise, which is a no-brainer, and we are sick and tired of shower curtains: eight out of 10 new bathrooms have a glass-enclosed shower. Thank God!

And the 7,500 surveyed said let there be light: 48 percent of respondents are adding a window, 41 percent are adding a lighted vanity and 12 percent want a skylight. And I hope these folks don’t get fried whilst they shower:

Seven percent are spicing up the shower with LED lights in their showerheads.

Just get a tub. The most perfect bathroom I have ever seen exists at 8519 Swananoah. Remember this house? It has the most perfect master bath ever. A his and her commode in separate rooms, a bidet for her, a urinal for him, this tub and a glorious walk-in shower. Heated floors. Forget shower doors, I actually prefer to go bare when it comes to showers — NO doors!

Now this, dear readers, is a master bath! What is your favorite?8519-Swananoah-master-bath-575x383
