Happy New Year! How many resolution posts and puns are we going to see? Too many? I bet. ANYWAY, why not resolve to get yourself a new house this year? Ha! But would you look how cute this 1925 Craftsman-style home is in Historic Downtown McKinney?

Spoiler alert: I’ve written about before, but thanks to some improvements, it feels like a whole different house.

It’s within walking distance to Historic Downtown McKinney and sits on a block filled with charmers. That’s it. Downtown McKinney is like its own little world. Plopped in the middle of a Dallas suburb surrounded by all the Targets and other strip mall trappings, an adorable square surrounded by the cutest neighborhood resides.

I have a friend who lives there and bikes and walks everywhere. She’s living her very own Gilmore Girls dream. That’s the point, too, right? Why live down there if you can’t take advantage of everything the cutest of the cute has to offer?

A Charmer in Historic Downtown McKinney

Kind of like this house. Ta-dah! You knew I’d get there. First of all, this three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom house has some of the prettiest landscaping, including a pollinator garden out front with raised gardening beds in the back. Graveled paths that wander around the house and are topped off with wrought iron arches.

On the inside, the original shiplap lines the ceiling and even though considerable updates have been made, it’s seamless. We love the penny tile in the bathroom and the most perfect pop of wallpaper in there, too, which is repeated in the bedroom. The home has plenty of charm throughout its 1,475 square feet.

In the kitchen, one wall of cabinets goes all the way to the ceiling. The homeowners found creative solutions, using antique furniture to create more counter space and storage. It’s such a fun, easy little house and I know the shower curtain doesn’t stay but the florals are on point.

McKinney History

Now let’s close out with McKinney trivia no one asked for. In 1848, the Texas Legislature named McKinney the Collin County seat. It had previously been a town called Buckner, but due to geographic restrictions, yadda, yadda, it came down to two towns. McKinney and Sloan’s Grove, which is where Fairview is today.

Historical reports alleged that “heavy rains and swollen creeks prevented Sloan’s Grove voters from reaching the polls on voting day, and McKinney was voted to become the county seat.” Everyone assumed they’d rename McKinney Buckner for consistency, but they opted against it. They named it McKinney after Collin McKinney.
