1980s in All The Right WaysPlenty of WindowsEasy Access in Merriman Park

I used to live in Merriman Park and I was always, always curious about these homes. Turns out I wasn’t the only one. Berkshire Hathaway’s Jeremy Larsen was curious, too.

A couple of years ago, he learned all he wanted when he helped his buyer purchase one of these Merriman Park townhomes. Now it’s time to move on to a slightly bigger space and the owner is only sort of ready to leave. If she could have added on, she totally would have stayed put.

And honestly, that tells you all you need to know about a home – this one has been a total love affair from the start.

1980s in All The Right Ways

Larsen and his then-buyer, now-seller, both loved all the characters. The soaring ceilings are lined with tongue-and-groove wood planks and bros, that’s real wood. Larsen said it looked like Knotty Alder to him. My best guess was oak, which now seems SO WRONG, but it was late in the day, so sue me. Or, better yet, settle the score in the comments below.

Plenty of Windows

How about those windows, huh? They’re spectacular. The transom windows (with a plant ledge) in the living room bring it with light and add an open, airy feel to the entire home. Do you know what else makes the space feel open?

The open railing on the stairs. I mean it’s right in the name, you know? THANKFULLY, there aren’t any chunky half-walls breaking up the space. See what I’m saying? It’s the same reason you want a couch with legs vs. a skirt. It draws the eye up. So easy, so breezy.

The primary bedroom is downstairs with an ensuite bathroom and as Larsen puts it, a groovy bathtub. Right next to a sliding glass door, no less.

A bit of a headscratcher? Not really. Larsen said that back in the day you could enjoy a cool Virginia Slim, Vodka, and Tab and then top it all off with a spritz of Love’s Baby Soft.

Upstairs there’s a little loft landing with a built-in bookcase that makes for the perfect home office or you could make it a reading nook if you’re anti-audible. OR if we keep with the 1980s vibes, this is the perfect spot to set up shop with your Tony Little Gazelle.

That’s what Larsen loves about the space. He calls this Merriman Park Soft Contemporary “unadulterated.” As in, no one has come in and jacked it up with shiplap or some other current trend that would be an atrocity in a home of this vintage.

Easy Access in Merriman Park

My favorite thing about this home? All of it. I’m so into those angles and good vibes. I also kind of love the __cpLocation. It’s super easy to hop on North Central Expressway or LBJ and head in any direction you want. Back when I lived over there, the direction I headed most was to NorthPark Center, which is dangerously close and just a few minutes west on Northwest Highway.

So much has been added over there, too. You can now walk across the street to Alamo Drafthouse, Fireside Pies, or Fuzzy’s Tacos. Or don’t cross the street at all and hit up Jake’s. Want to see it for yourself? Larsen is planning an open house this Saturday, February 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Jeremy Larsen with Berkshire Hathaway has 6396 Abrams Court listed for $379,900.
