Or maybe you’re pretty sure that’s the magnet your family is looking at because it’s a great fit should your child be accepted, and you’d like to find that house nearby right now.

One of the great things, sure, about a magnet school is that you can live anywhere in the district. But anyone who has driven any length of time in Dallas can attest — driving through the city at certain times of day (which often align with the times of day you’d be hitting the carpool lane) can be an exercise in frustration.

Parents at Sudie Williams will tell you the commute is worth it, though. Dallas ISD mom and Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Realtor Kay Wood has one child at Williams and another at Rosemont in Oak Cliff (whew, right?), but is an enthusiastic advocate for Williams.

“My eldest is a fourth grader at Sudie Williams TAG Academy in Bluffview,” she told us when we solicited reviews of Dallas ISD schools. “This was a neighborhood school for many years, but after a large apartment complex that housed many of their students was sold and demolished, DISD decided to make it into a magnet school.”

“This is the first year it has been a magnet campus, starting off serving fourth through sixth grade (adding seventh and eighth the next two years),” she continued. “We have an amazing, dynamic principal (Michael Jackson) and fantastic teaching staff. Students have lots of opportunities for hands-on and project-based learning. They are a ‘Leader In Me’ school and carry leadership throughout the campus, from the classrooms to clubs and teams to the campus garden.”

“We are a new school but have already built strong connections and community from all over Dallas, thanks to our amazing staff, kids, and engaged parents.”

But if packing your driving patience isn’t something you’d like to be responsible for because you’re already packing school lunches, we found a great home near Williams that is ready for move in, and gorgeous to boot.

Priced at $857,000, this three-bedroom, two bath home at 8415 Blue Bonnet Road was built in 1938, but has been impeccably maintained.

It also does a pretty neat party trick — from the curb, it looks like a post-Depression era cottage. From the inside, with its floor-to-ceiling wall of windows overlooking the backyard, it feels like a spacious, sleek, yet also cozy family home primed for entertaining.

Located in Bluffview Estates, the home has retained its original hardwoods, but has had some great updates too, including Pella windows, and a kitchen kitted out with a Viking gas stove, black walnut sealed kitchen countertops, and more.

Two spacious living areas provide a grown-up, quiet space and that family room with the cathedral ceiling and the gorgeous views. Three bedrooms and two baths give plenty of room for a family and guests, but the home also offers a study and a sitting room off the master.

Outside, a large two-level storage shed with an electric lift means plenty of storage that is easily accessible, too.

The home is listed by Chris Papazian with Dallas City Center Realtors.
