Desco Fine Homes founder and president David Goettsche loves his work. For the Daltxrealestate.com-approved builder, homebuilding is not only a profession — it’s his passion.

“I’ve been building houses for 42 years,” Goettsche said. “It’s been a great business for me.”

The commonality of a Desco? TLC, according to Goettsche. Peers call him a “builder’s builder” — a testament to both his unwavering commitment to quality and the value he puts on relationships. Each member of the team is hand-selected, and many have been with the company more than 20 years.

“When I find good people, I stick with them,” he said. “I’m just the conduit who puts it all together.”

He recently offered a tour of his newly-completed Preston Hollow spec, located at 11011 Jamestown Road — a modern masterpiece sporting 5,824 square feet of luxurious amenities.

First impressions are unequivocally impressive: the home’s first-floor family space has soaring 22-foot ceilings, exposed wood beams, unique circular lighting fixture, and dramatic, floor-to-ceiling fireplace.

Equally grand: Glass doors (16- and 12-linear-feet, respectively) leading to a lavish backyard, complete with pool, spa, phantom screens, full kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and heating/cooling capabilities. “The goal was to make it livable all four seasons,” he said.

Inside, the chef grade kitchen features a porcelain-topped island, two dishwashers, and 18-inch icemaker. Directly adjacent, a frosted-glass door opens to a separate catering kitchen. “They’re extremely popular in all of our Preston Hollow-area homes. It’s worked extremely well for us.” Also downstairs: an executive study; step-up media room that can easily be converted into a dining area; and large master suite with wide-planked white oak floors, gas fireplace, porcelain-tiled bath, and customizable his-and-her closets.

Stairs leading up to the second level are “comfortable, not steep”— characteristic in all Desco homes. Other signature attributes run the gamut, from wide hallways and three-foot doorways to spacious living spaces. “When I build a house, I don’t start with a specific number of square feet. What I strive for is room size.” Along with a trio of amply-sized bed and bathrooms, the upstairs also sports a flex area that can be used as a workout, movie, or game room.

Conveniently located north of Royal Lane between the tollway and Preston Road, the .42-acre property is priced at $2.495 million.

As a high-performance homebuilder — raising the standard for how homes are built — Goettsche strives to keep energy costs to a minimum; he projects monthly electric bills to be a fraction of conventionally built homes. In addition to the Jamestown property, Desco has specs on the market in Lakewood (6218 Ellsworth Avenue) and North Dallas (5861 Meletio Lane).

The award-winning builder admits to being extremely picky about lots—a skill acquired over time. His best advice?

“Be patient. Homebuilding is a process,” Goettsche said. “You don’t learn it all overnight.”
