Lakewood Modern Tudor Is Updated With Designer Touches

Location, location, location — it’s the all-important factor for any home sale. Buyers want a great house, of course, but they also want a great location. Our Inwood National Bank Home of The Week is a beauty, and it’s in a simply perfect location. It’s a Lakewood modern Tudor cottage and it will steal your heart.

How does being within walking distance to White Rock Lake sound? Or being able to bike to Lakewood Elementary? This sweet cottage is just the right fit for a growing family, and it’s move-in ready.

Minnette Murray has 7035 Lakeshore Dr. listed for a mere $1.069 million. We say “mere,” because frankly this is a steal. It’s rare to find a 3,485-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom, one-half-bath home like this for just over a million. The house was remodeled in 2009 with updates to the infrastructure as well as complete kitchen and bath renovations. A powder bath was added on the first floor and an additional bedroom with a large walk-in closet and bathroom were added to the second floor.

From the Arthur Gonzales vintage curb tiles, to the generous backyard, it’s a winner. The attention to detail is incredible. For instance when the house was expanded in that 2009 remodel, new doors, casings, and crown moldings were matched to the existing originals. Even the crystal doorknobs were matched on all new doors.

The living room has a dramatic vaulted-and-beamed ceiling. That vaulting makes the room feel huge and gives it a distinctly modern edge. It opens into a traditional light-filled dining room.

The dining room leads into a beautiful, and huge, butler’s pantry with more storage space than we’ve seen in almost any Lakewood home.

We have absolutely fallen in love with this kitchen, and guess what? It’s not white! It’s a gorgeous Farrow and Ball color, and if you ask us, our guess is the hue is  Borrowed Light. It’s a very East Hampton color and makes you feel like you’ve just walked in from the beach.

The kitchen has all the bells and whistles you expect and — wait for it — a 43-inch La Cornue, CornueFE commercial dual fuel range. If you are a cook, it will take your breath away.  A Sub Zero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher round out the neighborhood of professional appliances.

A wonderful breakfast nook with an inset chalkboard and plenty of  built-ins for cookbooks and kid crafts, overlooks the backyard. The huge island is Olympian Danby marble, as are the countertops. The Ann Sacks glazed subway tile backsplash and glam chandeliers  hit just the right style note.

The family room was included in the redesign, opening it up to create a great flow for entertaining.

There is a terrific home office space on the first floor, right off the main entry.

A new bedroom was added upstairs with a large walk-in closet, a new Jack and Jill bathroom — so sophisticated we feel it should be called a “Jackson and Jillian” bathroom. Seriously, with Ann Sacks period rice paper, penny round tile floors, Calcutta marble, and Restoration Hardware sconces, just to name a few items, it’s a bathroom that is deserving of a more formal moniker.

For those of you that remember a particularly famous talking horse, there’s a Mr. Ed-style Dutch door out back. So, even though the backyard is large enough for a pool, that door really cries out for a horse — of course.
