Drive the manicured streets of Park Cities, Preston Hollow, or Lake Highlands in October and November and you’ll notice a popular design trend —a dazzling fall display that’ll really make your porch pop. Here you’ll see pumpkins of all colors — bright orange, burnt orange, crisp white, or unique green.

Whether you want your gourds with warts, or prefer plump, symmetrical pumpkins that are smooth as silk, our friends at Lawns of Dallas can put together a great fall display that’ll have neighbors thinking you are some kind of undercover design genius. The 40-year-old Dallas company offers three fall display design packages to choose from, with prices starting at $600.

Want something dramatic without the work? Contact Lawns of Dallas to design your fall pumpkin display.

Lawns of Dallas’ Ryan Burrow shares a few tricks of the trade they use to create visually unique fall displays.

1. Layer the height

The first step is making sure your display can be seen. Pumpkins and fall decor can really fall flat if they’re all level, so layer your decorative objects. A short set of porch steps offer the perfect canvas to display your arrangement. No stairs? Get creative. You can stack hay bales vertically on either side of your front door as a base for eye-catching towers of pumpkins, as Lawns of Dallas does, or incorporate rustic objects like buckets or wheelbarrows to add visual interest.

There are short pumpkins, tall pumpkins, and squatty, skinny, or bumpy pumpkins.

2. Incorporate food

Speaking of getting creative, fall displays aren’t just about the pumpkins. Fall is famous for fun, colorful food, from bright red apples and yellow corn to skinny gourds and bumpy squash, so use those objects in your display.

3. Fall plants fit the bill

Incorporate fall-blooming plants and autumnal flowers in fiery hues into your fall display. The large blooms of Mums add cheer to a display, while Crotons add height and variation. Keep them blooming by placing them in a sunny spot, deadheading any dead flowers, and watering when dry.
