Friday Four Hundred: This Cottage is Sitting Pretty in Old Lake Highlands

There are some really, really adorable cottages in Old Lake Highlands, which is actually much closer to White Rock Lake than many of the areas under the “Lake Highlands” moniker. This area is just east of Peavy, and some of the homes actually have lake views (and some of the lots with lake views will soon be home to sky-high modern shipping container homes such as PV14 that will most certainly have lake views).

This home, while it doesn’t have lake views, it is still so adorable from the curb that you can’t help but want to check it out inside. It’s a fantastic little thing, 524 Northlake, with several updates and a really lovely lot. It’s inside the Hexter Elementary attendance area, a sought-after blue-ribbon campus.

With three bedrooms and three baths, three living areas and a wonderful patio, this traditional home is built to accommodate a busy family that appreciates the finer things. It has more than 2,900 square feet, too, and is listed by David Bush for $475,000.

While the living areas are cozy with plenty of light, you’ll really fall in love with the modern, updated kitchen. Honestly, the big selling point for me, outside of those lovely custom maple cabinets, are the Miele appliances. Miele double ovens, including a steam oven and a warmer, as well as a built-in cappuccino machine (OH MY GOODNESS YES!), huge stainless steel refrigerator and a fantastic built-in gas cooktop, well, I’d spend all day and evening in this kitchen. You couldn’t make me leave!

The master bedroom is a healthy size at 16x 14, which is not huge but you could still fit a king size bed in there. I am a little bummed with how few windows it has, though. Perhaps adding a skylight like the one in the kitchen would help its rather dark feel.

There are three bathrooms, and one is updated with a double-sink vanity, fresh tile in the tub surround, and a modern storage cabinet for all of your linens.

In the backyard you’ll find a sweet, easy-to-mow little lawn and a lovely concrete patio with brick firepit. It’s a great spot to spend some family time this spring — just let the kids run wild, or maybe even have a game of catch. Bring on the sun!
