Fort Worth Friday: Are You Ready For a Trip Back in Time?

Because that’s what this exceptionally preserved two-story mid-century modern home built in 1953. It’s in the Berkeley Place neighborhood, just a jump from the Fort Worth Zoo. And folks, this home is a total time warp! It’s so immaculate that I could imagine Don Draper sitting down in one of those Eames chairs in the formal living room and pondering his next big idea. It’s a hip pocket listing from Williams Trew marketed for $649,599. I’d try to negotiate some of the furniture, to be honest. I love this home that much.

You get just an inkling of what can be found inside by looking at the clean lines and perfect paint on the outside. But guys, you have no idea. Just go ahead and do yourself a favor and jump to see the beautifully retro interiors.

See what I mean? I was not joking even a little bit. While this home was built in 1953, this four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home at 2034 Ward Parkway has a lot of furniture that screams “DISCO ERA” to me. I mean, look at that burnt orange and ochre tapestry in the formal living room, lit by those gigantic track lights. And that marble mantle! There are tons of windows, though, which is so fantastic. You can see the cool covered porch from the dining room. Lovely view.

The downside? That carpet. Ugh.

I bet there are some hardwoods under there, perhaps even the same herringbone floors you spot in the kitchen and hallway. If you’re buying this house, chances are you’ve got a mind toward restoration and you’re going to pull that ancient berber up. This home has two fireplaces, two living areas, a three-car carport in back, and a spacious lawn. This home is west of 8th Avenue and east of Forest Park, so you’re in a fantastic, sought-after neighborhood with lots of mid-century homes and some really beautiful parks.

Another thing you’re going to want to do is deal with all of these bi-fold doors and wallpaper. Part of me loves the vintage wallpaper, but I’d also love a more open floorplan and some sleek, neutral walls. The kitchen is all white, and has a very institutional feel. I’m sure that was popular in the late 70s or early 80s. Still, it looks so well built! Imagine it with some sleek, modern cabinets, some cool tile, lots of steel … Oh it could be a real vision!

I just freaking LOVE that macrame wall hanging in the family room. It’s a trip, isn’t it? How fabulous!

The bedrooms and bathrooms are all similarly preserved. Back in the day, this would have been outright fabulous. The fact that it looks a lot like it probably did 40 to 60 years ago is a testament to the craftsmanship, right? I love the vanity in that one bedroom. Do you spot that wonderful portrait on the wall? So good. And that bedspread! WANT!

Of course, this home does not want for outdoor space. This covered patio could be an amazing dining area where you could host all kinds of gatherings. With the right buyer it could be an incredible mid-century home again. What do you think of this Fort Worth hip pocket listing? If you love it as much as I do, you should get in touch with Joan Trew. I hope someone will let us know if they buy this amazing home and decide to renovate!
