Forest Oaks Midcentury With Pool is a Dream For Young Families

This Forest Oaks midcentury has a lot going for it — especially for families.

Situated between Ferguson Road and Creekwood Drive and bounded on the southwest by St. Francis, Forest Oaks is an less-than-memorable enclave of midcentury ranches and two-story homes set into a modest hillside. It could be easily forgettable to most people, as it’s not as big as nearby Claremont and not as flashy as Forest Hills, but the homes still prove to be an outstanding value as East Dallas becomes more and more popular to young families.

And there’s a lot to love at 2104 Forest Oaks Drive, especially if you have kids.

The dining area opens onto the back deck through sliding glass doors. There’s an additional door in the kitchen area, too.

The first thing that caught my eye at this three-bedroom, two-bath, 1,512-square-foot midcentury ranch is how sizable that corner lot is. What’s also great is that the home is on the end of the street that faces a greenbelt. What’s across that greenbelt and creek, you ask? Well, it happens to be my favorite summer dive, the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge. So while this home has a pool, a corner lot, and sits inside the attendance boundaries for DISD’s exceptional Alex Sanger Elementary and Preparatory School, you’re also close to the Arboretum, within striking distance if Interstate 30, and you get plenty of room to explore the greenbelt. That’s pretty incredible considering the price tag of this listing from Ebby Halliday Realtors agent Brian Parker: $349,900!

The kitchen is practically brand new with a cool herringbone tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and cabinets that stretch all the way to the ceiling.

What’s really great about this house is that it’s spacious enough without having one of those cavernous open floor plans that make you feel lost in a space with too many purposes. Yes, walls and separation between rooms are making a comeback — where else are you going to hang your art?

Both bathrooms have benefited from a recent refresh, Parker notes. While they are a little cozy with just one sink each, a lot of people in nearby Casa View will be envying you sheerly because you have TWO BATHROOMS. You see, this whole area of East Dallas is lousy with adorable houses that have only one bathroom, because — and I have no idea how they managed it — but entire families with two or three kids each used to use only one bathroom. I know. I’m stumped, too.

But that’s not the main attraction of this home, because why worry about showering or bathing your children during the summer, because a dip in the pool totally counts as a bath. Trust me on this.

So you get a great home with lots of updates and upgrades — hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances, y’all! — and you can top it all off with a backyard that with a brand new board-on-board privacy fence that will keep your kids occupied for hours on end. I doubt this home will be on the market long!
