Disney Streets Midcentury Modern

The Midcentury Modern that sits on almost half an acre over on Gooding in the Disney Streets is pristine. Like PRISTINE. Like I don’t know if I can adequately get that across, but you know I’m going to try.

The kitchen? ORIGINAL. Minus the granite that was added to the breakfast bar and bar extension, the rest is 100 percent original. Those cabinets! They’re so modern you glance right past them not even giving them a second look. But they’ve been there from the beginning. That’s how timeless this design is. The butcher block and stainless-steel countertops and backsplash are also 100 percent original. Look how freaking cool that cooktop looks set in the butcher block. Final thing and then we’ll move out of the kitchen, those aluminum bullet lights are original as well. Coldwell Banker’s Ed Murchison said they’re so popular companies are reproducing them, but these have been there all along.

These owners love Midcentury Modern. They obsess over the details and the one time they did need to update the bathroom, they did it in a way that you would never know. (Two-by-two-inch tiles.)

Everywhere you look in this Disney Streets Midcentury Modern there are amazing features that make this home so special. Fortunately, Murchison is very adept at calling them out.

The vaulted ceilings with one flat oversized beam that runs the length of the main living areas are sprinkled with killer bullet lights. This home was ahead of its time in regard to the “open concept,” and if you ask me, they did it just right. It’s open, but there are partial walls that define each space.

There’s a floating hearth on the expansive fireplace wall, cleverly painted a contrasting deep gray that Murchison says is sculptural, but not heavy. It’s the coolest detail that definitely has me rethinking my own hearth.

Murchison also pointed out that this home sits on an interior corner lot so it feels like it’s floating in a sea of greenery. Every room in the home looks out onto the meticulously manicured lot. There’s a walkway that runs the perimeter of the home – it “undulates with the ins and outs of the footprint.”

It’s full of surprises, too, as you round a corner of this Disney Streets Midcentury Modern you’re greeted with a little seating area carved out of the impressive lot.

Overall, this is a house for purists — those who appreciate the thoughtful details of the era, live for originality, and love and appreciate Midcentury Modern design in a very special way.

Murchison said they couldn’t find any official documentation, but this Disney Streets Midcentury Modern is very likely the work of Gordon Nichols, an architect and builder of the era. He’s responsible for a great many of the homes in the Disney Streets.

There’s an attached two-car garage AND a detached oversized two-car garage that’s air-conditioned. Perfect for tinkering around and restoring any and all 1950s cars.

Murchison has 10307 Gooding Drive listed for $895,000.
