Double-Wide Trailer Equals Double Disaster

My husband made for the perfect source for this week’s column. In his early years his dad worked in the oil industry and that required a lot of moving. Their solution to housing was to simply have their home hitched up and moved from town to town.

Yeah, my husband and his siblings were the original trailer park boys.

He fondly remembers catching horny toads under the trailer, taping the kitchen cabinets shut so the plates would not fly out while the trailer moved along the Texas highways and riding around on his bike with all the other kids that lived in the trailer park.

When I came across the home featured in this week’s column I went straight to my husband to get his expert opinion. Now to be completely forthright, my husband lived in a single-wide trailer.

As you can clearly see, this is a double-wide. Oh, baby! It can be found at 0 Hart Elite Manufactured, Helena, Montana. It is a three-bedroom, two-bath home that was built in 2012. It is 1,728 square feet. The owners were asking $45K but have dropped the price by $20K. There is an offer pending so you better move fast.

Now when my husband first saw this listing he thought a brick-and-mortar home would be great in that location with all the land. They could live in the trailer while the traditional home is built.

“No, no,” I said. “They are not selling the land, just the double-wide.”

“Oh wow, $25K for a double-wide is a good deal,” he said. “Those are expensive. Wait, what’s the catch?”

You see, it was not just his boyish charm and good looks that made me fall in love with my husband. He is a smart cookie.

According to the listing agent, this home could be like new; it just “needs walls, ceilings and flooring removed and replaced.”

How about we take a look at the inside of this palace, eh?

And now you know why the home needs new walls, floors, and ceilings.

In the description, the listing agent said that the home was only lived in for a short time but sat with water damage with the furnace running during the winter. Hence the double-wide science lab.

Now, what is truly funny is that all the personal items and the deck are sold along with the home.

The owner went through the effort to stage the house with a new white couch and a television that is still in the box. You know the couch is new because it is devoid of mold.

They even started the bathroom remodel for you.

Look at the shower and tub. Not even a hint of mold!

In case you missed it earlier, there is a sale pending on this home. My husband’s reaction to that news was pretty darn close to the image below.
