Delightful Artist Home in McKinney is More Than Meets The Eye

I know, just last week I said that new construction in the suburbs often looks the same, and when a reader sent me this home in McKinney, I was a little … disappointed?

Of course, from the curb it does look a lot like the typical home you’d find in Stonebridge Ranch: stone and brick exterior, one tree in the front yard. Inside, though, it’s anything but typical.

Right when you walk in to 1705 Quarry in the Fieldstone Place subdivision of Stonebridge Ranch, you notice the overwhelming warmth of the space. I’m not usually a fan of warm beige, but considering the decor and art, combined with the rustic-yet-elegant chandeliers, it works so well. The seller is an artist, and that conveys well through the mix of different furniture styles and textures.

The home has three bedrooms, two and a half baths, soaring ceilings in the living area, an upstairs game room or playroom, and a backyard that has the perfect low-maintenance landscape that was made for entertaining. Truly, this home is just warm and inviting throughout, and includes some great design treatments. Hardwood floors downstairs add to the warmth of the home, too.

The kitchen, which has a great little breakfast nook, has tastefully antique white cabinetry, granite counters, and a great island. It’s open to the living room, which has a gas fireplace and plenty of space to hang out. Thanks to the large windows and vaulted ceiling, it feels bright and airy. Throughout the home, you’ll notice a great little upgrade for people who prefer low-maintenance window treatments: Shutters. Some are your typical plantation-style, while others are a bit more rustic. They’re all a really great design touch, and a great way to save energy when the North Texas sun seems to heat homes like an oven!

The master suite is downstairs, with the other two bedrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom is a decent 16 x 15, and feels a little larger thanks to the vaulted ceiling and hardwood floors. I love those shutters, which look fantastic with that bright white ceiling! I also love the little reading nook next to the window, with the wing-back chair and barn light. Perfect for relaxing.

The master bath is lovely, and I adore the robin-egg-blue paint on the cabinetry. It makes the bath feel a little more personal than your basic builder-grade finish-out. There’s a large walk-in closet, but I really wish some of the jewelry and personal stuff had been stowed before photography.

Now, what you’ll really love is the low-maintenance backyard, which features an oversized patio and aggregate backyard with stone pavers just outside the cozy screened-in porch. Me? I’d run some twinkly lights around, put out a galvanized tub filled with local beer and some other goodies, and then invite all the neighbors over after I move in. It’s a great spot for just hanging out! What do you think?
