We see a lot of fabulous homes, but few grab our attention like a Pottsboro property that just hit the market, located about an hour north of Dallas. This is a perfect weekend house if we ever saw one!

The barndominium at 192 McClain Ln. is a sight to behold, an enchanting and unusual house made to look like a rustic wood barn with lots of high-end features for the discerning buyer. It has five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, two half baths, and 5,293 square feet on two stories, sitting on 10 acres close to the Texas-Oklahoma border.

Located two miles from the shores of Lake Texoma, this residence was built as a vacation home by DFW residents looking to create a gathering spot for four adult children, grandchildren, and family friends alike.

“We wanted to create a new, exciting experiences for our boys and their friends and our friends as well, something that would have that wow factor,” said owner Cynthia Dutton. “It’s so unique and fun — people can relax, go out on the lake, do whatever they want while being around each other.”

Dutton calls the house an “attraction magnet,” fascinating guests with its barn facade, big interior spaces, 10 acres of land, and wildlife.

“People are excited to come here and once they arrive, it’s a home away from home,” she said. “We’ve had 23 people comfortably staying in the houses for Thanksgiving and everyone had space.”

The red metal barndominium’s design was inspired by a pole barn that originally occupied the land. The roof and rafters of this home are taken from the original structure’s barn wood and tin.

“We’re city people and thought, ‘what would be more interesting than a red barn?” said Dutton. “We love it.”

Most barndominiums are fairly plain and certainly not this large, says listing agent Ronald Hart with Ebby Halliday Realtors.

“This is a very unusual property and it’s beautifully finished out and furnished,” Hart said. “The living area alone is 1,000 square feet with two sitting areas, pool table, shuffleboard table, separate wet bar, and custom light fixtures.”

Something else unusual? The energy bills. Even with soaring ceilings and big spaces, the home’s thick metal walls and spray foam insulation keep electricity usage down to under $300 a month.

The kitchen is luxury and lovely with granite countertops, custom cabinets, a large center island with seating for eight, two dishwashers, pot filler, microwave drawer, commercial-grade gas range, second sink, stone backsplash, stainless steel refrigerator, and two refrigerator drawers. Plenty of space for cooking for a crowd.

The sleeping spaces are plentiful in this barndominium — one upstairs guest room has a custom seven bed bunk with a queen, meaning it can easily sleep nine. Its bath has dual showers and dual sinks, meaning everyone can be ready for breakfast before all the coffee is gone! A nearby 37-by-33 unfinished bonus room offers lots of possibilities.

The downstairs master has a shiplap vaulted ceiling and lots of windows, as well as an ensuite bathroom with dual sinks and a walk-in closet. It also has private, west-facing porch for sunset toasts.

Three other downstairs bedrooms feature painted shiplap in appealing colors and access to well-appointed bathrooms.
