Cochran Heights Launches Second Home Tour Featuring The Castle House

Cochran Heights is a wonderfully quirky, charmingly historic, centrally located neighborhood full of beautiful homes. It’s just the alchemy a neighborhood needs to put on a fantastic home tour, and we’re lucky enough to get the second-ever Cochran Heights Home Tour this April 6. The tour, which runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, will give you fresh eyes on this spectacular neighborhood. If you’re getting déjà vu, it could be due to the fact that we’ve talked up this area so much for its intriguing collection of Charles Dilbeck-designed homes.

In fact, Cochran Heights is a popular destination for Dilbeck lovers thanks to its extensive collection of his architectural designs. It’s quite a place-making feature, one that earned the neighborhood its own Texas Historic Commission marker. This year’s tour will have five homes for you to admire, including:

• a charmingly updated Dilbeck bungalow on Pershing Street

• two completely renovated and expanded Dilbecks on Milam Street — one of which is the aptly named the ‘Castle House’

• an Austin stone cottage on Homer Street with a stunning backyard oasis

• a thoroughly modern modern on Mission Steet, built in 2016

Tickets to this year’s CHNA home tour are $20 in advance and can be purchased here.

The first CHNA home tour featured five Dilbeck homes and proved to be a very big draw city-wide, receiving acclaim from the foremost Dilbeck experts. Proceeds were used to install a streetlight on Alcott, provide for two successful Neighborhood Night Out events and our neighborhood holiday events, cover costs of printing newsletters and flyers, replace our Little Free Library, and much more.

This year’s tour will help us to fund a major Neighborhood Vitality Grant Project, (should we receive the grant) and additional neighborhood projects as well.
