April Fool's Day
We do not condone nor condemn April Fool’s pranks, but if you do one, please send pics.

April Fool’s Day is just around the corner, and that means all the pranksters are getting ready to scare, tease, surprise, or otherwise torment all of us unsuspecting (read: gullible) folk once again. I, personally, dislike April Fool’s Day.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good joke, and we at Green Scene Home Inspections love to laugh. Sometimes, in fact, when we show up for a home inspection, it feels like the homeowner or Realtor might just be pulling a prank on us with the things we find. So in honor of April Fool’s Day, here are some prank-worthy home inspection finds:

Is That Birdshot?

April Fool's Day

Yes. And the offending rifle was a 410 sitting off to the side. So that’s … welcoming.

Trespassers

Hopefully, that shotgun wasn’t aimed at these little fellas. 😰

Inspector Alex does like to have fun doing pool inspections. Poor ducks, just minding their own business. Also, that is one green pool. Algae in the pool is super fun to get rid of. (That’s sarcasm, it’s not fun at all. It’s the opposite of fun.)

Who Needs a Report?

Inspector Alex boldly demonstrates the building code that says doors must be 80″ in height. #homeinspectionfinds #askahomeinspector #ouch #dallasrealestate #fortworthrealestate #austinrealestate @christinewithgreenscene @a.ferreiro.humor

Who needs to write things down when you can just demonstrate that building code requires doors be at least 80 inches high — with your head? Seriously though, did you know that Green Scene is, in fact, the exclusive home of the video inspection? We provide a video that goes along with the home inspection report. It’s so much handier to have a visual aid to go along with all those pesky words. We don’t like to brag, but we’re the only ones who do that with every single inspection (and have since we started way back in the aughts).

This Has to Be a Prank

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Because who would just have this happening in their yard all the time? Y’all. Listen to inspector Cody struggling to be serious in this video. I’d be looking around for the April Fool’s Day prankster lurking around the corner.

It’s MARCH

April Fool's Day
Seriously, Halloween was FIVE months ago!

I will tell you my absolute, all-time favorite home inspection prank that I’ve ever heard of, and I WISH I had pictures to share. It was a house in which the sellers were Halloween fanatics, and on the day of the inspection, while they’d left the house spotless, they left little surprises throughout. Like a head in the freezer, fake rats in the attic, giant spiders under the bed, a mannequin in the closet, and a bloody hand in the sink. Hilarious.

I’m not saying I’d recommend that sort of tomfoolery whilst people are trying to conduct business, but if you did happen to leave something funny for your Green Scene Home Inspector for April Fool’s Day, and snap a photo of it to send to us here at Upon Closer Inspections, I wouldn’t be mad.
