Not all 26-year-olds are created equal. Back when RE/MAX DFW Associates agent Brianna Castillo was 26 years old, she began selling real estate for one of the largest RE/MAX companies in the U.S. and quickly made her mark as a go-getter who gets results.

Now five years later, she’s a top producer for RE/MAX DFW and leads the Castillo Group in Lake Highlands. We sat down with Castillo and teammate Keelie Luttrell for Q&A and insight about what makes The Castillo Group tick.

What was the market like when you began selling real estate?

Brianna: When I began in 2015, I worked with almost entirely first-time buyers. It was extremely difficult, as there was so much competition. It was a mountain of effort for each contract.

Keelie: I started selling real estate in a really hot market in 2018, when it was very competitive amongst buyers. I think it was a great time to jump in and get my feet wet!

Do you have a mentor or someone in the real estate business that’s helped you and what lessons have they taught you?

Brianna: I joined the real estate industry because of my cousin, Marti. She recruited me in and showed me what it takes to be a top producing agent. I am extremely grateful to her for having a belief in me and taking the time to mentor me.

Keelie: Actually Brianna has been the most incredible mentor, and she’s the reason I joined real estate. Because every deal in real estate is unique, it’s so helpful to talk about each specific situation and brainstorm with her!

What part of town do you live in and what’s the best part of living there?

Brianna: I live in a small gated community within Lake Highlands, where we know most of our neighbors and they’ve become some of our closest friends.

I love that Lake Highlands truly has a small-town feel.

Keelie: I live in Old Lake Highlands, where I’m close enough I can walk to White Rock Lake. My home is on a large .27 acre lot and I love that homes in this area afford us so much space.

Describe the architectural style of your home and how you’ve decorated the interior.

Brianna: My home is a “Villa,” a detached single-family home on a very small lot. It’s great because our street feels like you’re walking the streets of Europe.

Keelie: I live in a ranch that was built in the 40’s. While it’s been updated, it still has a lot of original features (beautiful molding, hardwoods, etc). We have a transitional style and love to mix in contemporary while honoring the age of the house.

What fad in homes, exterior or interior, do you most look forward to going away?

Brianna: I honestly get excited about so many home fads that I wouldn’t say I’m thrilled for any of them to go away. However, one fad I am so glad to see gone and I pray never returns is carpet in bathrooms.

Keelie: Controversial, but the completely open floor plan is not for me. Families want to feel connected, but not like they can’t hide away their dirty dishes when having people over. I’m a huge fan of the butler’s pantry as a result. It’s perfect for all the extra things when you’re throwing a party!

Happy hour spot: Nothing beats a Mi Cocina Mambo Taxi!

Secret shopping spot that agents should check out: We love The Store in Lake Highlands for closing gifts! They stock the cutest things. Also, the Nicholson Hardie Garden Shop, where they have the best selection.

What should newcomers to Dallas know about living here?

Brianna: Newcomers should know that there really is a little bit of something for everybody! Find an expert to help you locate the perfect spot.

Keelie: This is a food city, so be aware a lot of gathering is going to happen over amazing dinners out. Also, the longer you are here, the smaller Dallas feels. This is a city that loves to connect.
