A University Park Classic Georgian You’ll Love

Now and then I happen upon a house that is not only lovely but also sensible, like this classic Georgian in University Park.

We are drawn to homes like this because of their symmetry. They feel familiar. It’s that familiarity that resonates with us on an emotional level. It just feels right.

There’s a reason for that. The builder of this beautiful classic Georgian is Jerry Stiles owner of J. Stiles Custom Homes. He knows more than a thing or two about what buyers want because he’s been a builder for 52 years.

“I want the homes I build to be timeless, but also current,” Stiles said. “You can tell what generation in which a home was built by the pitch of the roof, the height of the ceiling, and the color of the windows. So, for the last 15 to 20 years I’ve attempted to eliminate that to create a timeless look.”

I got quite a lesson in building from Mr. Stiles. He knows what works, what people want, and how to give them the absolute maximum amount of space without sacrificing anything.

“The traffic flow is the overall lasting theme that needs to be presented in a home,” Stiles said. “I see so many things that won’t work as far as flow, and that will be outdated in ten years. I can tell you 25 years from now, whoever buys this home will find everything about the flow for living and entertaining will still work.”

This is what I found so sensible about this classic Georgian home. Then there is the fresh, fun, and modern interior design. Award-winning interior designer Tiffani Mackenzie collaborated with the owners on making this home fresh and light. They did not shy away from color, but take note. It was used in a smart way.

The choice to do only one room in a dramatic wallpaper was a good one. All you need in a dining room is a big table, a fabulous light fixture, great wallpaper, and beautiful drapes. This one is perfection.

Mackenzie found the dining chairs at Scout and had them upholstered in this delicious lavender fabric.

Now that everyone has sheltered in place, private spaces have become instrumental. With 5,317 square feet, five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two powder baths, and a study, it’s easy to find a quiet area in this classic Georgian. Your family may have to draw straws when it comes to who commands the third-floor bonus room with a kitchenette and bathroom.

“Everyone in high school will want to come here because of that room,” Stiles said. “It’s the perfect teenage hangout.” If you don’t have teens yet, it’s an excellent spot for a man cave or it could easily be a guest suite. The potential is limitless.

“You need walk-in closets and ensuite bathrooms in every bedroom,” Stiles said.
“That’s a given.”

Of course, location is a large part of a home’s desirability. The Park Cities is where anyone with children wants to land.

Robert Elliott and Associates listing agents Andrea James and Marilyn Richards have this gracious classic Georgian home at 4212 Southwestern listed for $2.295 million.
