You’ve heard us lament the increasingly rare affordable home in Dallas, and how difficult it is to find move-in ready real estate inside the city. We talk all the time about what’s available up north in Collin County, but it’s time to shift our focus eastward, and this adorable, updated ranch in Mesquite is just what we bargained for.

With fresh paint, beautiful details, hardwood floors, and great staging, this listing from David Griffin & Company Realtor Don Neilson is the perfect High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. It just hit the market, and at this under-$300,000 price point, we don’t expect it to last long. Want to snag this home? Call Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans today to get pre-approved so you can put in your highest and best offer on this Mesquite ranch.

First, let’s admire the paint and decor at 1000 Gageway Drive. This is an excellent example of how one bold color on the walls, repeated through adjacent rooms, becomes more of a neutral. It adds to the connected feeling of the home, enhancing flow and mood. It also allows you to work around a specific palette of other neutrals, and shows off the beautiful hardwood floors and elegant beamed-and-vaulted ceilings in the living room, as well as the tray ceiling in the dining room.

Truthfully, this is a lot more than what I expected when I saw that Neilson’s listing was located near Town East Blvd. and North Galloway — a very convenient location, indeed. The neighborhood, Green Canyon Estates, is full of late ’70s and early ’80s ranches, some looking a little worse for wear. This five-bedroom, two-bath home with 1,976 square feet looks like it was reimagined by Chip and Joanna, Neilson noted. Not only does it feature designer flooring, paint, lighting, a recently added porch, and recently replaced roof, but the landscaping is perfectly manicured, “and there is even a chic playhouse in the back!” Neilson said.

Considering what you get for your money, this home is an absolute value at $269,000.

See how that rich teal color is repeated through the home? You’ll find it on a wall in the kitchen, adjacent to the dining room, and on toss pillows in the family room, which is next to the gorgeous breakfast nook that has a beautiful beadboard ceiling treatment. There’s tons of light coming in through the windows in the family room, which has a door leading out to the covered porch. The kitchen has tons of prep space on those granite counters, and the backsplash features a lovely mosaic accent above the double-bowl sink. Stainless steel appliances and plenty of storage make this an easy-to-love kitchen for any home chef.

The master suite got the luxury treatment, too, with fresh tile and a distressed finish on the granite-topped double vanity. The master bedroom, with its elegant tray ceiling, feels bright and airy. A word of caution about mattress gymnastics — move the antelope sculpture first to avoid any … accidents.

And the backyard, with its grassy lawn, playhouse, and covered patio is perfect for a family. Entertain friends and watch the kids play in the space, which feels very private thanks to the eight-foot, board-on-board fence. Considering all of the updates and upgrades, this 1981-built ranch in Mesquite shows the great value to be found if you head east!
