Best of Ridglea

There’s Ridglea — a solidly affluent neighborhood with immaculately manicured lawns and largish comfortable dwellings — and then there is super-fancy Ridglea. Several years ago, on a whim, I took a detour on the way to Ridglea Village down Curzon Avenue and discovered an unknown-to-me enclave of Ridglea as elegant as anything Rivercrest or Westover has to offer. Not surprisingly, proud owners cling to these choice properties, and listings in this area are few and far between.

Adjectives like “gracious,” “timeless,” and “impeccable” spring to mind on viewing 6216 Curzon Avenue. With its deep setback, the property has curb appeal to spare. A long, comely brick walkway leads to the off-center front door. The central bay is symmetrical, flanked by two wings. The house has a build date of 1953, but the cast stone quoins and other decorative details seem to be later accretions.

Inside, we see a properly managed winding staircase — not the supersized version to be found in several pricey additions that I will refrain from naming. As well as being perfectly proportioned, the space benefits from an exquisite parquet floor.

There is something so deliciously old fashioned about this nearly 4,400-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-and-one-half-bath abode that one wishes a favorite aunt called this home. Though the interior decoration is very specific, the layout is classic and accommodating to many design schemes.

All of the ground-floor rooms are spacious and include two living areas, a formal dining room, a butler’s pantry/bar, a kitchen, and extensive bedroom suite.

The bright white kitchen is equipped with a massive, built-in, cabinet-faced refrigerator and freezer, a six-burner professional-grade gas cooktop, and two large built-in ovens. The cheerful space also contains a breakfast nook.

The commodious downstairs bedroom suite is comprised of a large bedroom with built-in storage, an elegant bath with marble countertops, and a separate, generous closet with an opulent dressing area.

Upstairs are the remaining bedrooms, each every bit as exquisite as the first-floor bedroom.

The back garden is framed with tidy boxwood hedges. Behind the house, there are two garage spaces. Every detail of this property bears witness to meticulous maintenance and care. Even the cavernous attic has been decked for finish out.

John Zimmerman of Compass Real Estate is offering 6216 Curzon Avenue for $1.399 million.
