Oh my gosh. Let me uncurl my white knuckles from the steering wheel to write this. And maybe breathe, after the near sideswipe on Interstate 35. Then there was that guy who laid on his horn just because I dared to engage my blinker to turn left. I’m so sorry, sir, that you had to wait two seconds.

Has anyone noticed traffic these days in North Texas? It ain’t great.

Meanwhile, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has made an announcement. Beginning this week, it expanded service in some Dallas areas. How about a standing ovation for some traffic relief?

This week DART has expanded its zone-to-zone pilot program for GoLink, an on-demand service providing curb-to-curb “microtansit service.”  The service is already operating in multiple areas including such far-flung areas as Farmers Branch, the Park Cities, Lake Highlands, Glenn Heights, and South Irving. According to DART’s website, the service is already popular in Plano.

The three new areas include:

  • North Dallas
  • Rylie/Kleberg
  • Eastern

Well, can we get a hallelujah and an amen, too? I haven’t tried any of these myself, but I applaud any attempt to make traveling the highways and byways around North Texas more pleasant and more efficient.

In celebration of this good news, daltxrealestate.com will spotlight open houses this week in some of the areas of this expanded attempt to make mass transportation a part of our culture. Wouldn’t it be great to leave the driving to someone else once in a white-knuckled while?

4325 Westway Avenue, Highland Park

Designed by Fooshee and Cheek, this house was built in the ’50s and renovated for today.

With a house this beautiful, maybe you’ll never leave so traffic is no concern. It was designed by noted architects Fooshee and Cheek, creators of Highland Park Village, and sits on an oversized lot in Highland Park.

A fireplace and beautiful windows make this a great spot to work from home.

Built in 1950, the stately traditional has been renovated throughout its 6,123 square feet to blend the historic charm with modern touches. The two-story is listed at $4.75 million and features six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, designer lighting, and custom window treatments.

Iron doors lead to a large, landscaped backyard.

Downstairs you’ll find a large family room, a dining room, the primary suite, an office, a laundry room, a guest room, and a kitchen with dual dishwashers and a comfy breakfast nook. Upstairs are four bedroom suites, a playroom, a second laundry room, and an unfinished storage room.

Custom iron doors on the first floor open to a large backyard. It’s a great place to reflect on Dallas traffic and how great it is to live in an area served by DART.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, agent Emily Hill of Compass Real Estate will hold open this house.

3200 Hunter Lane, Plano

Located on a cul-de-sac, this Plano house is listed at $1.595 million.

Living on a cul-de-sac in a gated neighborhood is one way to avoid a lot of traffic, but the occupants of this Plano house probably have some traffic interactions from time to time. Luckily with the expanded DART service, this two-story house became even more attractive. Listed at $1.595 million, the 4,658-square-foot house in Plano’s Oakbrook Estates comes with high ceilings, beautiful millwork, and tons of natural light.

Walls of windows fill the dining room with natural light.
Modern touches make this house far from cookie-cutter.

This updated home, built in 1994, is made for entertaining. Think of the fun to be had with a formal dining room, formal living area, game room, four fireplaces, multiple covered patios, pool, and heated spa. The kitchen stands ready for meal prep with an oversized island, Lava Vecchia granite countertops, and a Bertazonni gas range.

Plenty of spots here to escape even the least bit of traffic concerns. Bedrooms total four, as do the bathrooms for this house. The downstairs primary suite comes with dual closets, a soaker tub, and expanded vanities. Upstairs are three more bedrooms and a study, all with great views of the beautiful trees.

Agent Holly Thompson with Allie Beth Allman & Associates will hold this home open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

3967 Clover Lane, Dallas

This two-story home offers four bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Dallas is widely covered by DART conveniences, so living at 3967 Clover Lane should come with relatively few necessary traffic headaches, at least when compared to other parts of North Texas. This newly constructed two-story is located in the Midway Hollow neighborhood near restaurants and parks.

This newly constructed home is located in Midway Hollow, near Love Field.
A dining room can be used as a place to plan a Dallas commute.

Within its 5,160 square feet are four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and bright living areas. Downstairs is the primary suite with two walk-in closets, a stand-alone soaking tub, a walk-in shower, and double vanities. The modern living area with contemporary lighting opens to the kitchen, which includes a wet bar, beverage refrigerator, and ice maker.

Upstairs are three more bedrooms, plus a game room. The backyard offers plenty of space for a pool or swing set. Listed at $2.195 million, the house is close to such transportation landmarks as Love Field, so maybe you could fly instead of drive.

From 2 to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, agent Piper Young Rivera with @properties Christie’s International Realty will host an open house.
